Just ask Nurre Caxton!

I was just updating my POS and lo and behold, the 32x40 ready-made metal shadowbox has been discontinued!

Those were selling really well, especially between November and December - and in a weaker economy too.

And most likely people would still have bought them because of the economy, but no more...

Unless of course I was the only framer who was selling them.....

Cliff:

I have one in my window with a sport jersey in it and nice background mat and a couple of 2 inch stripes of the team color behind the jersey. It has brought in dozens of people, for such a shadowbox or something similar.

It gives people ideas; In one week in December alone I sold three to people wanted "the same design as the one in the window".

Paul if they are discontinueing them you should be able to get a deal on what they have left. Stock up.

Paul, I have a similar display in my window at the moment. It's been in and out depending on themes at the time. It's a Worcester Sharks Jersey signed by the entire last years team. (It is in the case with the hanger. Will change it to a proper display during soem down time.)

It definitely brings in jersey/clothing customers, but I always sell them a custom buitl frame. Unless it is something that will be taken out frequently or changed on a regular basis (The Sharks change the jerseys in their office each month, I sold them two), I sell a custom design. It's not good to hang anything of value on a hanger for extended periods. If they want it to last I explain that a proper mounting is a better option.

If they're not changing it themselves and frequently, the 100 profile is a better option than the case without the hanger if they don't want wood.

just MHO

I didn't even know about them. Which I suppose puts them in the same category as about 47 of our state capitals.

Cliff -

Perhaps a dumb question but who is the vendor you are referring to with "100 profile"?

Thanks

Jeane, the ready-made "shadowboxes" from Nurre/Nielsen were made from modified Nielsen 100 profile moulding. The 100 profile is the metal shadowbox frame.

The readymades had modified corners so the acrylic could slide out to get at the contents. That is essentially the only difference from using the standard 100 profile for a shadowbox. That and the optional cloths hanger from the top.

Hey Paul

We do a fair amount of jerseys; had one of those on display side by side with about 5 other jersey options

May I suggest our consumers reacted about the same as most framers? NO SALE

For the landed cost (about $120 if I remember) we could frame a jersey "to the nines". Our friend Dave might share his jersey package strategy

We finally sold ours to some one that needed it "right now" and I think we may have recovered our costs. In truth, it was a great side by side trade up tool to every other method we showed
