I've read all the threads about gallery hanging systems and still have a question. Our ceilings are 14' tall and also the original tin. We would need to attach to the wall. The walls are exposed brick. How high would you recommend we start? And how low? Would you put the bottom right down to the floor? I'm trying to spend the least amount and still have it look good.

The tracks can be screwed into the brick at any height you like. Unless you have something against the wall in that spot I would go to the floor. Pieces are more likely to be seen/sold low than very high.

Thanks Jeff,
I think I'll start at 9ft. We are getting ready to participate in the First Friday Gallery walk. The work will hang for a month. We did one in December but had to use existing hooks and it didn't look real swell. Next I have to decide on food and wine. A certain number of viewers will be at the opening strictly for the wine so I don't want to be too generous but yet have something decent. Since it is a year round event I thought I should go for a more professional hanging method.

9" 'sounds' like a good one---any highter and most of us won't see all the minutia anyway(and a LOT of homes just dont have high ceilings and you want your exhibit to look like 'their' setup). there are brick anchors sold at the hardware stores --- you dont need the really BIG ones and dont get the babies either! (check for the weight reccomendations-if any--and got highr than they say-I think they lie on the shy side!)these things need you to predrill a hole into brick(do NOT drill into the morter), then blow out the crud in the hole, then hammer the insert into the hole, then screw in the screw into the insert(which expandes the insert for a nice tight fit(if you did the hole correctly). 2 things---I would insert these into the bricks in a downward angle(away from you), and I would wrap the exposed screw-threads with some tape(to help prevent threads from digging into whatever you use for hanging--I overkill here somewhat), and I would NOT use non-metal at this point(if your hanging system doesn't have metal mounting-use someone else!). lol

I would put the rail at ten feet, it will provide for more options in the future ie stacking two 40x40 etc
if using cables 6ft cables
I would fly the lights at ten also
