Just recently, I had a customer bring in a Thomas Kincade Canvas. The canvas was a bit of an oddity. It didn't look like canvas, but kinda did. It was a square print, not a size that I recognized as being Thomas Kincade. It also had a very pastel or faded look to it. The canvas was not stretched.

During the course of conversation, I learned that it had been printed off the internet on a friends computer and given to her for Christmas. Big Red Flags. At that point, I had a pretty good idea she wasn't going to pay much for framing; and I really didn't want to do any free framing. I also felt uncomfortable knowing it was bootleg. I upped the price enough so that she would take her bootleg and go.

Now, my question is...... could I get in trouble with copyrights if I were to frame something like that and I do it knowingly?

Candy,

Oddly enough that was discussed just a few weeks ago, here . I can’t address the liability issue, but I would be bothered a little if I knew it was a pirated copy. If I was faced with such a decision as you had, I honestly don’t know whether I would agree to take their money and frame it. I guess I won’t know until it happens.

I am not the art Police. Its not my job to know if something was fraudulant or not. If it was lots of framers would be in Jail for framing Dali's work
