How long should it take to complete this project.....

A 35x25 shadowbox with:

A violin mounted with formed rods and shrink tubing

A bow mounted with Melenex straps

One 5x7 photo with a fabric wrapped mat and reverse fillet mounted on a 1-1/4" high platform made of affc that has been wrapped in the same fabric as the mounting board.

Four 4x4 photos mounted the same as the 5x7 photo but without the fillet

Two silver dollar coins mounted in a 1" high wood dowel (wrapped in fabric). The coins are mounted to the dowel with Melenex and the dowel is mounted to the backing with a screw through the back.

One 3x4 pewter plaque on the same wrapped platform as the photos.

One 1x2-1/2" wood rosen block mounted with Melinex

1/2" affc glass spacer glued and stapled to inside rabbet of top frame and then covered with a fabric mat strip to hold the Museum Glass.

3-1/4" tall fabric wrapped affc spacers inside back frame

The frame stack was cut and joined by LJ

(Phew, I think I got it all.....) :icon9:

I am just curious what the Grumblers think about how long it should take to complete this project. I will be finishing this on Friday morning. Just the wrapped spacers and fit to do. I will post the final time after I finish.

32-47 hours depending on the carved detail and whether you go with oil stain or alcohol stain, poly-acrylic in 3 rubs or 27 coats of catalyzed lacquer.

The interior work shouldn't be more than about 5-7 of it.

Pretty much in line with Baer (did I say that?)
I would estimate it at 5 to 8 hours.
Depends on how many of these you have ever done.
Also a variable is if you are the owner or an employee.

Long enuff that we will have to play the violin for you 3/4s of the way through the project.....:bdh:

Wow, I guess I pay WAY TOO MUCH attention to the smallest of details. In fact I know I do. But a wrinkle where the customer will never see it will still bother me.

Any way, total time over 3 days was 12 hours.

I am quite adept and have a great deal experience with shadowboxes. The only thing that was new to me was the formed rods. Also the fabric wraps around the small photos was time consuming as it began as an experiment. The mat width was a tiny 5/16 of an inch wide and was wrapped around the mounting board of the photo as well. Never done that before. Turned out real nice.

Also ended up re-doing the platforms the photos were on. The first round was not high enough. Didn't realize that until all of them were done.

So glad this done! :faintthud:

Photo?

Sounds like a fun project. Is there a photo you can share with us?

Thanks

Sorry for the delay in getting this up. I left Friday afternoon to head down to Monteray to be a spectator at the Sea Otter Classic Bicycle Race.

Anyway, here is a pic of the project. As you can see it is a simple straight forward design. I actually would have designed it differently, if the customer had allowed. A more random design would have pleased me..... but this pleased the customer. For $2500 I'll do what ever the customer wants. Heck, for $25 I'll do what ever the customer wants. Go figure!
