Yes, it is an already existing thread, but that one is REALLY long.

And I have an add'l question:
What do you find to be best and worst about The Grumble? In other words, what keeps you coming back, and what keeps/drives you away (aside from useless posts like this).

And further, what other 'Picherframer' BB's and what not, do you also frequent or know of?

This is already getting long, so I'll throw in my 1/2 cent later.

marc

did you know that if you edit the post you can also edit out those multiple edit markers. this is edit (a comma) three.

I'll jump in here.... Having already answered the original question, I'll answer the "why...back" question: The information and people, and the logical setup (questions and answers lining up on one screen)and ease of use, and the ease of use of the archives. Framer has done a beautiful job with the BB.

As for "other sites": Occasionally I go to the conservation sites, but find my questions often go unanswered, and it is difficult to get a conversation going on them. HBFN is fairly inactive at the moment. As you know, I visit HH's as well. It is very active, but more of a challenge on which to participate.

(How do you edit out the edits?)

Mel,

As you know, I also participate on the HH (PPFA On Line Exchange) and I agree, it is very active, but does take the most mantainance. It currently has almost 600 participants.

Another active board is FrameDex.com which has some "cross over" participants as well, but also some new faces.

The conservation board is another (Quiet but very interesting).

I too have answered the way I found the Grumble .As to what keeps me coming back ,I feel I know a lot of the members even though I haven't meet them.I also enjoy some of the informal conversational post which is how I learn about others.I agree that the system is easy to use.
I participate in HH also and it has advantages in that only framers are in it and Email is required. Which points out my dislikes here.
In a comparison I find that Grumblers are a more mixed group in reguard to skill and technique. Or at least the less known HH aren't too vocal which everyone knows just isn't my style. That's not to say that people Like Marc, John ,James ,and Merrill aren't extremely helpful when I make a dum statement.

I found the Grumble when it was really an infant. It changed quickly to the present format--which framer has embellished with such style as to make it its own icon. Perhaps it's just because I feel comfortable with all the members, but it's my favorite. The style is easy to understand and follow, and best of all, it's handleable. I'm really new to HH and appreciate that you need to hang around for awhile to gain a comfort level. It does seem much larger, and I think some of the posts get fewer answers because of this. Merrill does a fine job, and I hope to keep up the learning curve. Dunno, 'though--I think TG will be my first line.

(I also want to know how to "edit" out the edit.)

Give it up, Marc. How do you edit? I tried highlight/delete: zippo.

MM, I did the highlight, delete and it worked for me.

To answer the other question, it's addictive, enjoyable, helpful, informative, educational and at times it's just ben entertaining in addition to all of the above mentioned.

Where else can you advise other people to fire their employees, get rid of the back room tv, ask the boss for a raise, buy out the boss, buy a wizzard with all of the drama included, hear about what happens when lighning strikes, hear the horrors of a virus, feel like you've gained a friend or two whom you'll always think of and probably never meet and be misunderstood because the language we speak is not always written as we thought.

Knowledge is to be shared and thanks all for doing just that.

Like MM, I am unable to highlight and delete. I thought the new edit message would appear, but it is the old one of the 4th. Suddenly, I am also having to post my username and password for each and every reply, as well.

You will probably have the last edit but I just highlight all of it and hit the delete key on the keyboard. I was able to do just part of it also.

I gave up on trying to save password because I dump my temp internet often and get rid of the cookies that keeps it there. I think! Generally tho if I put in my name the password comes up so go figure.

I found the Grumble by happy accident, when I was using a search engine. I keep coming back because this is an intelligent and well-informed (and well-mannered) group. Now if I could just hear about a high paying opening in NYC, I'd have no reason to GRUMBLE!:)

I just have two things to say:

First: I thought that this sould be brought back to the top of the list.

Second: I come to the Grumble because I feel welcomed by a group of people with whom I share an interest.

I found out about the Grumble in Marc's article in Picture Framing Magazine, which, by the way, I consider an excellent trade journal. I like the Grumble because it is great to hear people who are so enthusiastic about framing, even though it is fraught with peril.
