How are you displaying mat corners

I have the Crescent metal racks on a table right next to the layout table. It's against a wall with 6 specialty mat-cut samples above it. So, while the customer is perusing the mats, I ask if they'd like a special cut mat such as the ones on display. It has increased profit nicely!

two sets of Artique in plastic racks, one with velvet mats in plastic rack, all three on 2 design tables.

Then I have a custom made rolling (cherry wood) rack, 3 'shelves', with Crescent and Bainbridge and a 4-sided spinner attached to the end, holding fillets. This is in between the 2 tables and can be rolled to where ever I want it.

I have Crescent, Bainbridge and Artique on various metal and plastic racks on a shelf behind the design counter that I pull out as needed along with fabric wrapped samples and wrapped liner samples.

On the design counter I have a rack of Artique all cut with V-grooves for the customer who wants to pull out and play for themselves.

I show v-grooves often this way and they account for about one third of my mats with no COGS. (Thanks Dave from Framemakers for the suggestion!)

I have Alphamats, Artiques, and a few Cresent Rags in piles on the design tables ready for work - I got tired of putting them back in the rack 25 times a day. 3 inch corner samples (4 inch are a pain to handle) in no particular order as I go through them all over the art everytime looking for colors of interest.

There is also a 3 tier custom built floor standing mat rack with a complete set of 4 inch corners in numerical order as well - mostly for reference.

I have a 3-level wooden mat caddy, on wheels. Holds all my mats with room to spare, and I can move it around if I need to, although I never do. Got it from Cundy Creations, in the Cincinnati area.

I have 4 custom pull out drawers in my counter -holding 3 brands of boards - sorted by color families(reds - blues - greens - browns - fabrics -etc)

Jerome, that sounds like such a great idea. Did you build the custom pull out drawers yourself? I have always wondered about putting them on a tray that slid out from under the counter. Pictures?

We use a custom built 2 level wood rack on wheels that is stored under our design counter....out of the customer's reach. I am in the Orlando airport right now, will post a photo in the next day or two.

We have 8 custom drawers in our counter for mat samples. It makes for a neater design space.

5 drawers hold the samples from Bainbridge, Crescent, Artique and some odds and ends. 3 of them are for fabric mat samples from Frank's, Raphael's, Framing Fabrics and our own fabrics & decorative paper mat samples. We also have a cabinet with shelves in our counter on which we keep the fabric swatches from the different companies and several photo albums filled with decorative paper samples.

The samples are divided by color, not company. We made dividers from mounting board and each color section is numbered and the back of each mat sample has the corresponding number as well. This way we don't have to look at a pink/peach matboard and decide if it should go with reds/pinks or oranges/peaches. It will always be in the same place. It is also helpful when it gets busy (or at least when it used to get busy!) because then anyone can divide them and put them away. We have even had customer's kids dividing them for us - it keeps them busy and us organized!

I have something similar to Paul... a 3-level wooden mat caddy on wheels. We keep our mats separated by brand and also by color (with dividers we fashioned out of 8-ply) Seems to work well for us!

I display mine of the heads of useless, good-for-nothing, causes-nothing-but-havoc employee...

We have two old LJ plastic racks on our design tables to house in-stock Bainbridge and Artique with some Crescent solid core.

Under the tables we have heavy Crescent wood racks holding all the mats we don't stock. We bought these racks thinking we would use them on the design tables but they are too heavy to continually lift or drag across the tables. We get busy and often have to move the racks off the table.

All these racks use Crescent plastic color dividers. Very durable.

Next to one design table is a 3 tier wood rack full to bursting with fabric mat samples from Raphael's Frank's and Bainbridge and Crescent precoveref fabric mats.

We have some V groove samples but I wish we sold more. We sell more fabric than v-grooves. I like v-grooves on solid core mats.
