I got out of buying retail LE prints about a year before I moved down South and haven't paid much attention to the changes in the print industry. When did Hadley lose Terry Redlin to Wild Wings?? He was their anchor artist for many years and was the crutch that kept Hadley selling strong and attracting new artists, in my opinion. I saw an ad in Decor that his prints were now available from Wild Wings, higher price, much lower editions.

I guess I was asleep at the wheel when all this took place but it was a shock that Hadley would have left that kind of golden goose go to another publisher!

Seems like the change took place just after Christmas '03 with no BIG announcement. It was in Decore I recall; maybe others. When I contacted Hadley about the change I was told that the Redlin Family requested proposals from other publishers .... Wild Wings won. I think that Wild Wings is part of Cabbal's and his work will begin to show more fully in their Outdoor Catalogs.
The smaller edition sized and higher price was introduced through Hadley in '01 ... I think.
We sell "right much" Redlin and have been welcomed by Wild Wings too. Redlin's anyone ????

Yes Wild Wings is owned by Cabela's. The prints published before Dec 31, 2003 will still be available from Hadley for another year.

The same prints plus new published since December 2003 prints are now available from Wild Wings.

Bud,

You are correct about the lowering of the edition sizes by Redlin in 2001. They dropped from something like 29,900 down as low as 9,900.

But, WW's is offering Redlins at an edition size of 3,500 at a price of $275, $100 more than the Hadley retail price! That is quite a drop for a Redlin edition size and a welcome one at that.

I have about 60 Redlins of assorted editions that probably won't sell very quickly here on the Emerald Coast. But I will keep them on hand for the Snowbirds that DO know about Terry Redlin and will be looking for some older editions next winter.

It is called "Lifetime Friends". I saw it in the April issue of Decor on page 77.

I had a hard time believing it too.

P.S. I keep wanting to call you "Wally"!

(Remember who that was??)

That took me a second but now I know who you mean.

Anyway I didn't notice that edition of 3,500. Very interesting. Wonder why that is.

Their "Encore II" size reprints are now called the "Pinnacle" edition also. They show "On the Alert" and "Flying Free" on the same ad.

I hope that they control who buys these Pinnacle prints better than Hadley did with their Encore editions.

Those wound up being sold in truck stops, in flea markets, and just about anywhere that had some wall space to display them. There was a big shakeup when Hadley got wind of what was going on and I heard that a few unscrupulous dealers lost their dealership over it.

I guess they were buying large quantities from Hadley and reselling them to the local truck stops for a profit and then the truck stops would further mark them up and peddle them to truckers passing through.

P.S. How can WW's sell this LE edtion framed for an additional $120 with double matting, glass, brass anmeplate, and frame?? The dimensions of the print are 18 1/2"x32", about the size of his older LE's??? That is some cheap framing (pricewise, anyway.)

WW's via Cabelas must have made a deal with DU. Wasn't Life Time friends one of their editions and Hadley only had the AP's. FGII, have you ever been in contact with Bill Axlerod (sp) on the Redlins. He calls us from time to time wanting to sell more than buy but you never know about his connections. He used to be in MN but now lives in Florida.
