Customer isn't that curious, but I am about these two Civil War-era swords that came in today to be framed.

Of particular note, each sword's hilt is very decorative. The first, bigger, sword has the letters "US" in the design. The handle appears to be wrapped in (real?) snake skin! The second, smaller sword is embossed with an anchor, the monogram "P.A.G." and some other cool stuff. The end cap of the smaller sheath is covered with some bright green good. Not patina, looks more like gum. Or is this paint?

So who knows much about this stuff?

What a coinkidink! I took in a Civil War era rifle yesterday. That sucker is heavy, I wouldn't want to carry it into battle or on a 20-mile march!

The last Civil War revolver I framed I called the gun shop and got the date and factory of manufacture. I had a plate engraved with all the info including the serial number so when the kids got it in the estate they wouldn't rip it out of there to find out how much it would be worth.

I believe those grips are shark(or ray)skin. Any manufacturer`s marks? Curious..... L.

So here's the finished product, came out fairly decently. Hopefully the client will like it!

Finished with:
  • Orr Moulding B-14 (Cap)
  • Framerica Boxers, Black (Doubled for depth)
  • Crescent 7102 Mat
  • Museum Glass
  • Formed Rod Mounts
  • Ability to hang vertically or horizontally (Customer request)

That looks fantastic, good job.
About the swords themselves, I have a very good customer who is an extreme collector of this stuff and he would have an answer for you. However and unfortunately he is quite ill and I may not be able to get an answer. If the opportunity arrises I'll show him and get back to you. (But I'm not going to hold my breath :( )
