I just learned about a new product that may have great application for the framing industry.

I am working to get all the data we need to make a determination for suitability, but it looks really cool.

It is a honeycombed rigid product available in 48 x 96 x 1/4" that is priced at about $16 for a sheet.

One of the things that is appealing is the Green aspect of the product:

Falconboard is 100% paper-based, made from renewable resources (a minimum of 20% recycled fiber content) and is recyclable to provide the perfect blend of printing performance and environmental stewardship. Our proprietary, patent-pending process features an engineered paper core and water-based adhesives coupled with a white printing surface. Produced chlorofluorocarbon-free, it emits zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during manufacturing.

It is FSC Certified.

I have samples coming to me and am waiting for additional information.

Correct me if I am wrong, it's basically a corrugated cardboard but in the honeycomb structure isn't it?

Hi Randy-

The company also makes a product similar to what you have described and it is widely used in the packaging industry. That product is made from KRAFT and is intended for packaging.

This is a new generation product, with a smooth white surface - no KRAFT at all, and no corrugations. It is also 1/4" thick. It was initially marketed to the graphic arts/POS industry and flatbed printers. I think it has great potential for framers and I am looking at appropriate uses (and also proper documentation from the company as to what it is made from).

I am going to put it through its paces, wet and dry mount to it, get it damp, look at handling difficulties - see how it cuts, etc. and I will certainly post my results.

You could get a Pioneer badge on your uniform for this, Rob!
