Here's a good one. Disney rejection letter because the applicant is a girl......

I don't think I would be painting Walt with that brush Mar, as his creed grew, Disney studios ratio of women in the front lines was much higher than the industry or country.

He was also the first to recognize domestic partners back when most of the culture was hiding in a dungeon of a sham marriage at worst and closet at best.

1938 was during interesting times. Less than 20% of the female population was in any part of the work force. The 30s spawned the term "MRS degree", and it didn't come from the misogynists; unless the term is non-gender bias.

I refer to him as a misogynist because of all of those danged helpless pretty little princesses with which he destroyed so many generations of little girls - many of whom now turn into Bridezillas because they still think there is such a thing as being a princess.

I could hate him solely for the travesty of what his corporation did to Winnie the Pooh. Those original drawings were so absolutely wonderful and he ruined them!!!

This thread should be moved to Warped - it does not belong in the main forum.

Mar; I think the little princess syndrome has more to do how mother raise their daughters (look at those stupid beauty contests) than some fairytales (which have been around far longer than Disney).

Yes, I hate what he did to Pooh! But on the other hand; would many today's children know about Winnie the Pooh if it wasn't for Disney? How many children know Beatrix Potter these days????

I also believe this belongs in Warped!

As for the original post; different times, different rules; brutal honesty? Disgruntled employee (seeing how she is a Mary too)?

Parenthetically, on PBS's History Detectives a few weeks ago there was a story about the early days of animation studios. As you know, it took thousands of individual drawings to produce a cartoon a few minutes long. In those days, all the writers and designers of the characters were men. The Ink and Paint dept., however, which did the actual drawing on the cels and filled in those beautiful colors by hand-painting them, was all women, who were paid far less than were the men. The cel they were investigating had come from the Warner Brothers studio, but Disney probably had similar practices at the time.
