I had a customer bring in a map of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan made from copper. I'm planning on float mounting it to foam core then putting on the mat board. Trying to figure out what product(s) I should use to do this.

Here are the specs:

28 3/4 x 14
1/16" thick
weighs around 3#

I welcome any ideas you have!

Jim Miller has a great technique of making rods to rest an object on. I would probably use the rods for something this heavy. I assume that you are trying to protect the map, not damage it with any kind of glue, right?

Some kind of shelf or rods sounds like the best way to hold the weight.

Make a wood strainer with appropriately placed cross bars and use little "L" brackets that you screw through the mat into the strainer. You can get them in brass or stainless or paint them. Usually they are tiny and in- obtrusive. Or for a really classy look...... Cut a strainer smaller than the map, attach it to the map with VHB tape and screw it from the back to the strainer you will make for the frame. You need a moulding at least 2" tall for that, but it's a great look, 'cause the map will be floating off the backing. Let me know if you want further details for that.
