I have a customer that would like a custom-finished frame for the attached painting. He's thinking either something in a metallic blue finish (like blue foil) or possibly a custom-created blue glass or acrylic frame with some bubbles in it.

Can anyone point me in a direction for finding or creating such a frame? For the custom-colored glass/acrylic option, I'm going to contact some local artists and glass/plastic shops to see if they can help, but I don't think there's anyone local to help with the metallic finish option.

The canvas is about 2 1/2" deep, and the fish are actually carved from wood and are sticking out from the canvas. We would seat the canvas in a floater frame and then put the finished moulding over top of the floater.

I showed him some of the textured, iridescent fabric wrap options but he didn't seem overly enthused with them. He did like LJ's wide Stradivarius scoop, but the color wasn't quite right.

Any ideas, design suggestions, pointers or resource information would be greatly appreciated.

You know what might look great is a birds-eye maple frame. It's a very clean look, and the birds-eye pattern will actually look somewhat like bubbles.

Have you seen Larson-Juhl's Meridian line? It is subtle colors layered thru a silvery scratch-textured finish in a clean wedge shape. There are two widths. I think a frame with 2-3 of these layered would look great on that piece.

I think the Meridian mouldings would create an interesting effect.

When you say layered, what does that mean? I understand stacked frames, but layered escapes me somehow.

This is an instance where IF Visualization would come in handy.

What size is the painting?

I'm just doing a frame with the Meridian moulding, and I thought of it too. It's a deep slant, so you will have to stack two mouldings to get the width you want, but that will also accentuate the depth. I'm not thrilled with how it joins, either.

I was thinking of one of the birds-eye maple frames from Vermont Hardwoods (my new fave), which you could probably get in any width/depth you need.

Paul- for joining the Meridians I have been pre-gluing and clamping in the corner vise then v-nailing. Fortunately the wood seems up to the task of supporting the top v-nailer clamp without crushing, so I do the outer vnail first and then the inner one with the lower part of the wedge shimmed by a block of dense rubber.

Ooooh, I'm drooling over the suggestions! I've sent the links for the sites to my customer to get his opinion. There's a couple of paraflex combinations that might work very well for this project.

I love the Grumble:D
