Hello,
I know this topic has come up a thousand times but I need an updated answer since l.e.d. and micro flourescense bulbs are now being used.

How have sales been??? June seemed slow to me.

Best wishes ans sales to you all

Glenn

Glenn, June was good, July is starting slow. I purchased several battery operated lights a few years ago from, I believe it was United. Sold them both, to different customers, both returned for a refund. Sold them both at cost to other customers, both pissed off, demanded a refund. I gave them their money back, tossed the lights. I will not carry battery operated picture lights. Let Aaron Brothers and their owners, Michaels, have those sales.

I have the same battery powered lights that JRB mentioned. Don't like, don't use won't sell them again. Run time is horrible and the light output is terrible.

I have gotten mailings from Hobby Hill Light and their battery operated offering looks good. Called N-Kord check it out at Hobbyhill.com

Can't say good or bad about it 'cause I haven't used it, the United one has me too weary to go the cordless route yet.

PS!!! not bashing United at all, their stuffs great, just old cordless technology was mainly a wimpy flashlight. And that was all that was offered.

Tried battery operated picture lights in my home before I would sell them. Would work once ,then nothing---so no sale. BTW - business sucks !!!

Guys, I can only imagine that you bought the "flashlight bulb" battery operated lights from United.

They have been carrying ours-Concept Cordless Picture Lights for a while now. These have about 3 times the light and 40-50 hours of use vice 6-8 hours.
Also, they don't have the "christmas light reflection" (where you see a string of little white and yellow lights reflected in the glass of the painting) associated with led lights.
You can view them at our website www.erols.com/koncept (We do have some more sizes/finishes not listed on the site)

We'll also be in Atlanta (not listed yet, but we'll be there)

Our return rate (overall) is about 2-3 %, which is pretty good for any given item. And the volume we have moved out there over the last 5 years must be in the couple hundred thousand range.

Lastly, I'd like to keep it simple and put my money where my mouth is and offer that if any of you guys would contact me at koncept@erols.com, I'll send you some free samples and then you can tell me what you think in Atlanta. (or by email)
(As long as you're a bona fide retailer or wholesaler, just ask and we'll send some along)

One note. however...July is not the prime time for picture light sales. So whatever sales volume occurs now can be multiplied by 3-4 times for September through about April.

Also, to be brutally honest, we find sales in the framing industry to be slower than other venues, but mostly due the practice of not displaying the product and waiting for a customer to ask rather than due to returns, etc.

Murari Sharma,

Thanks for writing in and showing your cordless lights. Went to the website and they look promising.

BTW you were right my only experience has been with the flashlight type of cordless light.

FROM EARLIER POST:

The best cordless light that we have found is made by Aura Lamp and Lighting. We have tested this light and on four D cell akaline batteries it last 40+ hours. It is approximately 3 times the light that most cordless lights project and is rated UV safe for artwork. It comes in black (matte), brass and antique brass. This light wholesales for $49.00. It will work with artwork up to 36" wide and uses a 2000 hour, 9", 6 watt flourescent bulb. I would suggest that you order one and test it in your shop. MN - 1-800-735-3025 and MI - 1-800-632-4842. Good Luck!

This was covered earlier in the month.

If you type in Picture Lights in the search feature you will find a lot of useful information.

To all those who requested free samples so far, thanks for the interest. Due to the demand, we will ship samples daily as the requests come in so we don't end up loading our warehouse all at one time.

Which is to say yesterday's requests have been shipped today and we'll continue in that vein.

And thanks to John Richards for posting his information: Aura is one of the major partners for distribution of our lights. So if you'd like to order from someone in the framing industry, pls. contact John. We can certainly recommend the product he distributes.

Back when I was working (as opposed to sitting waiting for one of my interviews to pan out), I came up with a different soloution to the corded/cordless light problem. I took the cord out of a regular Hobby Hill unit and replaced it with Flat speaker wire . For a fee, I'd go to the client's home, set up the light, put the wire tape to the wall and spackle over it, leaving a nice, flat and almost undetecable hump ready for painting. Result: Cordless look without the hassle and expense of constantly changing batteries!
