This is probably a case of not being able to see the trees for the forrest, but here goes. I mounted the mitering system to the saw and made the 45 deg cuts into the fence and wood, setting the depth.
I took a piece of moulding that was accidentlly was cut short a while ago with an inside measurement of exactly 10 inches.
I place it on the cutting surface pressed up against the blade and the other end fell on the 9 1/2 inch mark. The purpose is to ewposition the measuring surface so the moulding measures 10 inches. Thing is, the measuring surface cannot be moved inwards, only away from the center, making it worse.
If this makes sense please let me kinow where I am messing up.
Cheers

It sounds like this system is relying the cutting block in order to calibrate it.

I could be wrong, but I think if you've cut your cutting block with the scale in the wrong position, you may have to replace it (or piece it back together).

Make sure you have these instructions:
http://www.framingsupplies.com/Clearmount/1 Miter saw instructions-1.pdf

With your saw unplugged, bring the blade down and put a metal ruler against the back of the saw. See where the 10" mark hits. This is where your scale should say 10". If its in too close, your block needs to be moved out.

Thanks for responding. If you see on page 2 of the pdf, there is a pencil mark on the cutting wood to align to the blade when it is at 90 degs. This is how I mounted the system. Are you saying I should slide the entire system 1/2 inch to the right and re-mount?

:) Give me a little bit to do some more checking, but yes...it sounds like it.

Don't make any more cuts in the fence yet!

Okay, here are my edits:

Line up the pencil mark on the back fence of the scale base with your saw blade at zero degrees. It does say on page 5 that there is a potential gap between the block and the scale. Sounds like yours would be about 1/2".

I don't have this system...so please feel free to refer to anyone else who does...or wait until Monday and call Clearmount at 800-541-5472. I hope I've helped some....

Try contacting Cliff Wilson...he answered on your other post and has a Clearmount system and he may be able to help you set it up!

Thanks for taking the time. It is cutting exacly 1/2 too much so until monday, I can cut the framesd I need and take that into account, cutting them a little short.
Thanks again.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, been busy ... yeah!!

Anyway, On my two systems there has been plenty of play in the system to calibrate it. In fact, I have about a 1/2" gap between the cutting block and the start of the scale.

In the situation you describe, I would probably take the cutting block off and make it about 5/8" smaller, then replace it and you should be able to calibrate. Assuming your cutting block is the same as mine, you have plenty of room to shorten it without endangering the scale.

Was that clear? You shouldn't have to remount the scale to the saw.

Yes, the problem is I need to bring the measuring scale 1/2 inch closer to the blade, which as you say, cannot be done without cutting the cuttig block, which I don't want to do until I speak with the guys at clearmount.
I ended up, for now, extending the measuring scale by a whole inch, so if I want to cut say 18" lengths, I measure 19 on the scale.
I guess the issue is probaly the saw base?
Thanks for the advice.

Eventually you'll need a new cutting block. They get chewed up over time. They're not too expensive.

I'm guessing when you make your cut, the saw blade is probably about 2" from the end of the block, and the screw mounting the block to the bed is about 3/4". Plenty of room to take off 1/2 plus a little.

But, what you're doing should work fine and maybe Winnie has a scale that is offset a little more. Won't hurt to wait and talk to her.
