I have the United version disc sander. I have ordered more paper discs, but they are out of stock and the manufacturer is closed until after the holiday.

This morning a corner of a moulding caught my last one and tore a hole in it.

Does anyone have any extras that they would be willing to send me, or can anyone suggest an alternative? I am happy to pay for the disc, shipping, and your time.

Without my sander, I am lost...

Do you have a Harbor Freight (or is it Freight Harbor?) store near where you are? They have a number of grades of self adhesive sanding disks in stock. Other woodworking supply outfits can help you as well such as Lee Valley or Woodcrafters.

Check any auto paint shops or stores that sell suplies to them.

It is similar to the type of disk used on a DA sander.

Thanks for the replies! I am researching those options now. :) My local hardware store has them up to 6 inches, which barely covers half of my wheel, but it would work for small mouldings... :)

Hey,

Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner.

I rented a drywall sander from depot a few months back. The disk on it was big and had an adhesive on it.

Worth a call.

I have 'em

I have plenty of extras. I ordered them from United thinking $20 (or whatever the amount was) was pricey for each disc. But, I ordered three anyway. Was I happy to see three in EACH package.

So, I have about 7 extra.

Let me know TODAY if you want some of these and I can get them in Priority Mail tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all the helpful replies and offers. :)

I got two 120 grit self adhesive sanding sheets from Home Depot! They were rectangular (12x18), but cut cleanly around my wheel once adhered!

If you are ever out of the sheets, go to Home Depot! They are for floor sanders in the rental section and they work great.

Thanks again for the help all! :D

By golly....I think we got a "framer" here.....first it was the "101 uses for spackling" now "how to make a round sanding disk out of a square". Good job! And you have had your store open for how long?

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year!

How much did they cost???

Since August! :)

I know this is framer's kindergarten to most of you folks, but to me it is...well still a learning experience!

I had another tiny eureka moment today as well. You know the gold and silver mouldings that have the 1/32nd coat of plastic or whatnot on them just over the wood? When I sand the mitres, that material does not sand evenly like the wood does. Instead it bends up on the back of the corner and the corner ends up looking raggedly. I had been joining and then sanding those ridges down, but it is a pain to have to mix and try to match the metals on those.

Today with my new sanding disc, I had the same thing. Then I tried just putting the back of the mitre at a 90 degree angle to the disc and dragging it for about 2 inches. Viola! That little bendy area gets ground down and your corner looks much neater!

Doug, they were $6.95 each, so I think the discs that you can get from United and such are still cheaper, but the work for a temp fix!

OK- this is the second thread in a row to mention a "DA sander". I'm either 'out of the loop' on this or was absent from school that day. What the heck is a DA sander? (Somekind of digital-analog deal?)
