How do I clean up a newspaper scan in Photoshop?

Is there something that will make the entire white portion clean white?

Is the newspaper all black and white, or does it have color in it? If it is all b&w, then you can use a threshold layer to get rid of the texture in the white areas.

THRESHOLD will clean up the whites pretty effectively, but might leave the black text with the “jaggies”.

When faced with this situation, I go to CURVES and select the WHITE EYEDROPPER tool and click on a white area in the scan. The background will go pure white and, in this way, you are more likely to be left with the text antialiased and more easily read.

I do alot of these and have a plug-in called icorrect. it works great and fast to give m e that white for the newspaper. So if you plan on doing alot of corrections this is a great plug-in to get

Thanks Bill the eyedropper is what I was thinking but have not devoted enough time to learning it yet. Dave at FrameMakers talked me through it on the phone last night but I know I need to learn more every day.
