Here in New Zealand there is a bit of a back lash against composite mouldings not only from framers, who suffer chipping issues to artists who are having to battle chipping etc with just the slightest knock. Some suppliers are try an even thiner gesso coat then paint while others have just gone back to proven paint finish. Any thoughts as to where the framing moulding industry is headed. As you know I have a Prisma CE and a Morso. What I have found is that the back edge of the mouldings top and bottom have a slight round off i.e not square so the chip occurs. It is a battle. ARTY.

I would love to see the back of all the armour-plated hardwood mouldings we have been cursed with lately.

Here in Perth Antons have just released a new range of mouldings which are on fairly soft wood with thin compo and an excellent finish. They are as cheap as chips by the box and, (Oh Joy:icon21: and dancing on the bench) they cut quickly and easily on the guillotine.

As regards chipping and scratching on finished frames that is down to the buyer and how well or poorly he/she treats them. The way some galleries and artists handle frames makes me cringe and nothing short of aluminium will be safe with them and they would probably scratch them.
