Business people in our town have been receiving a letter supposedly from the US Department of Transportation with a DC address, phone etc. demanding confidential information such as FEIN and bank account numbers.
There is an official looking form attached - much like a tax return - where you are supposed to enter your information and sign and such.
Our neighbor received hers first and called Washington DC (she looked up the number rather than used the number on the letter) and learned that this is a scam.
