Ok, this is one of those possibly really dumb questions. Is there any difference in the hardware for Designer or Neilsen metal frames? I've never paid any attention but today I'm trying to put Neilsen in a Designer and it's not fitting in 3 out of 4 corners. Have I just been lucky before or what?????

not really an answer

I've always used AMS hardware and it seems to be darn near identical to the Neilson. But that doesn't really answer your question now does it?

Each metal frame manufacturer makes the hardware channel at a slightly different angle and also make their corner hardware slightly bent or flat so that their hardware and their frames make good corners.

Remember, they want to sell you frames AND hardware.

The principle is that the combination of frame & hardware are angled slightly to make the front of the frame tight when the corner hardware is tightened. That's why the back of the corner is sometime open a bit. I think it's best to
use the same companies hardware that makes the frames.

To get around this, you can bend the thin backing plate more or less to make the joint better but what a PIA.

sneaky

I heard years ago that Nielsen specifically made their hw not fit designer well so that you would blame the Designer moulding for the bad corners. Probably not true, but I never have good luck with Nielsen hw in Designer moulding...I always order a Designer polybag of hw when I order a Designer frame, just to make sure it won't be a problem.

I have used metal hardware from Impex for years and have used it with Clark, Nielsen, Designer, NDN, and Alumaframe metal mouldings, never a problem.
