I have been using tapped corners and backing plates to assemble metal (Nielsen)frames.
I found some Nielsen Quick Corners in a box hidden away. I like them they are quick and one piece.
Are the United Speedy Corners the same style as the Nielsen Quick Corners?
I need to order more connectors from United
What is your preference:
United Tapped corners

United Backing plated

United #5164 Speedy corner

Nielsen Quick corner

If the united speedy is the same as the Nielsen quick I would get them as they are less expensive and I will save on shipping, less weight than tapped corners and backing plates.
Thanks Dougj

Hi Doug - I switched from 2-piece hardware to Quik Corners many years ago and never looked back. I am not sure about the United ones - I did try another type of "one-piece" corners a long time ago and I did not care for them. The screws were too small on the inside - but I can't remember who I bought them from.

My advice? Stick with Nielsen Quik Corners.

Oh great. I just ordered 1000 tapped corners and back plates from United yesterday. Maybe I can change it on Monday. I didn't know about Nielsen Quick Corners.

Val - the Quik Corners are much faster and easier to install and I also believe they are just as strong - I use tapped corners and back plates for only really large, heavy metal frames (like the deep shadowbox in larger sizes).

I have been using them for so long now I had forgotten the struggles with the original system. One of my customers buys contract frames and bulk hardware and simply pays me to assemble his frames. It is quick money for me but I find myself swearing at the corners - what a pain when you get used to the ease of the Quik Corners!!!

The Quik Corners make it much easier to put the corners together tightly - somehow you have just a bit more "wiggle room" to maneuver the corners together.

Plus, as Doug mentioned, they are lower shipping cost!

Thanks, Mar. "faster" and "easier to install" and "just as strong" and "save on freight" is good! I'm sold!

CALL UNITED EARLY MONDAY!!!
(better yet, fax tonight, follow with call early Monday)

Doug, why didn't you read my mind a day sooner? ;)

Still Doug, it sounds lovely there!

Good news anyway, I got up at 6 this morning (they're Eastern time, we're Pacific) and called United, and it wasn't too late to make the substitution, it hadn't even made it into the system yet, because I'd called the after-hours order line on Friday.

So, because of your inquiry Doug, and Mar's response, some of us (I'm assuming I'm not the only one!) learned about "faster, easier to install, just as strong and save on freight". Thanks!

Doug

I personally hate the quick corners. when you get overzealous in inserting them the channels get crimped and then you can't adjust the legs and close the gaps in the corners.

Also in seemed to me that in order to be sure the corners didn't open up as I was putting the frame together I had to tighten the left leg first then the right leg.

Bob - simple answer - just don't get "overzealous" in tightening them down!

I go around each frame when I am finished to "tweak" the fit - and I do this with tapped corners as well.

Nylon corners?????????

Mmmmmm...

Nylon corners!!!

I have never heard of these - how is the cost in comparison to metal hardware - are they like those ones in some corner samples (the black ones that won't come apart when you try to recycle the aluminum?)???

Fast-R-Ware from FrameTek. Can be removed and reused. More expensive, SAVES TIME, assemble the frame face up. Works great on 15 profile and similar. Requires a special joiner to push the wedges, though an awl will work but defeats the purpose. Been using them for 7 years now.

I'm not sure they are nylon. Would guess some other, stronger, spaceage polymer.

And how much is this special joiner? Wedges? Are you talking about metal frames??
Got a picture?? I'm not getting a visual on this at all....interrresting!

Val, I suppose we could go for a looksee on Greg's website...

Nah, that would be too easy!!!

Although if they are more expensive they are rapidly falling off my objects of interest list....

I did Mar, FrameTek, but didn't find any such animal as Fast-R-Ware. You wanna try? Dumbheimers, or I'm missing something? I'm with you though, lost me at "more expensive", but how much more? I'm still curious, and about that special joiner thing. I did find a nifty metal frame security hanger system though.

Rick, help us out here! Or Greg?

I couldn't find them either, Val - but I do like the security hangers - I think it would be kwite satisfying to "Whump" the frame!!!

Yo, Greg!!!

Greg, saw you on the Float Mount thread, could you help us out on this one?
