A customer who is opening a new restaurant wants to hang plates (the Carraba's look) and has purchased 6 large heavy plates to hang in the front hall - regular plate hangers are not strong enough - these babies are heavy. she does not want plate rails or frames or decorative shelves.

suggestions anyone

thanks

Harry Potter?

If these are decorative only...

Take a large drive in sawtooth hanger and bend the points to a 90 degree angle. Use liquid nails adhesive to adhere to back of plate. Let dry at least 24 hrs. 48 would be better.

I have several large stoneware plates hanging in my kitchen that way. They have been there 9 years.

I learned that from an artist that paints river rocks in Charleston SC. She hangs some pretty heavy rocks that way.

That works if the place where you are going to put the hanger isn't glazed. I found out the hard way that adhesives don't stick very well to glazed pottery.
How about formed rods (1/8" brazing rods with shrink tubing). Make your own plate hanger on steroids.

Make your own heavy-duty plate hangers out of spring-steel rods. Cut and bend them into the desired configuration, including formed eyelets for hanging, and lash them together using a very fine steel wire, almost like thread. Where the rods contact the plate's edge, cover the steel with shrink tubing.

Another adhesive for Jerry's method would be PC-7 or similar epoxy putty. It will glue just about anything to anything else.

Call J&J Wire 1-800-633-0466. They are in Nebraska. They have many differetn types of plate holders for the wall

Thanks everyone - At this point in the project - her newest item to hang is another nightmare - I don't think that I will ever agree to the Parent's request to help their kids hang the artwork in their new business.... even if Dad is paying the bill.

Now she want me to hang formed concreate piece - I am not sure what it is made of - the small broken chip appears to be concreate but it is too light - the artist (whoever that was) did not provide any way to hang the piece - it simply has a hand hold for carrying. Any hanger in the hand hold chips out the piece

Aghhhh

I recall seeing a booth at WCAF that displayed glass hanging hardware for large deorative glass pieces. I don't remember the company's name, but I will look to see if I still have the directory with vendor listings.

How big is the concrete object? plate size or the size of a Buick? Would it hurt if it fell off the wall and hit you on the head?

Plexi box by Superior or Small Corp. Or if flat on the back mount it to a board and z-bar the board to the wall. If I can't figure out how to attach an object to the wall I usually can figure out how to attach it to something that I can attach to a wall. ;)
