I would like to hang a frame to surround a large, heavy mirror that has already been hung on J-tracks. What methods are available for hanging the frame directly flush to the wall?

If the frame is not to big I have used velcro from the frame to the wall.

If the frame is big and not just a small decorative accent i would not try it.

It would be best to take it down, cut it down, frame it and reinstall using Z-bar. Otherwise you need to rip the rabbit off the frame or fill the rabbit with 1/4 round with a matching finish. There is a black gunk that is used by mirror installers that will allow it to stick directly to the mirror or wall. Check with a glass company for the technical name of the black gunk which is like tar sheets.

No problem. You may have to rip an adjustment for the j-bar if the rabbet depth of your frame is compatible. If not you might be able the fit a smaller frame as you would a liner to make the rabbet work - with a similar "rip" to fit the j-bar. I did one this way (7 feet by 9 feet) and just drilled, counter-sunk, and filled screws into studs on the top and bottom. The top and bottom are usually not a serious visual issue.
