Less in another thread said something about not being exactly sure how to charge for wrapping liners and mats. So how do you charge for this?

From my other thread:
Did I charge to much or not enough?
I have not come up with a formula for hand wrapped liners yet. I think abstractly in terms of how much time it might take me and what a similar stock liner would cost a client.

When I price a stacked frame or frame and mat fillet, I always price it in terms of total outside frame demension (width added). This should compensate for the extra labor involved with installing a fillet correctly or stacking labor.

Lets say that the total frame is 5" wide and the painting is 30"x40" (70 UI) The charts say 15.7ft. I like to round up a little on jobs like these.

Outside frame NC $15
LJ fillet $7
Hand-made Liner $18 (easy to do and plenty of profit)
Inside frame NC $15
Total $55ft

16ft x $55 =$880
Fitting $25
Total $905

Hi Jerry,

We use the same formula for liners as we do for frame moulding.

We don't do enough volume with liners to justify the time, mess and headache to get everything out to do it. I know everyone says liners are simple and quick to wrap, but I can either join or fit a prewrapped liner in less time than it takes for me to just think about getting everything out to wrap it myself.

Our solution is to buy custom wrapped liner chops from Frank's Fabrics and join them ourselves. Or to buy no-seam liners from Frank. It seems as though he stocks hundreds of fabrics.

Lessee,
Without getting into the gorey details:
I charge the standard markup on the raw or primed liner frame, just the same as I do on any other frame. Since I wrap both mats (I stock 4-ply generic board specifically for that purpose, and can make 8-ply from it) and liners, I have determined a per united inch charge for preparing the liner (usually involves a little sanding and a coat or two of flat white latex) and a seperate charge for applying the fabric. there are breaks at 32x40 and 40x60 for an incremental increase in the markup factor. I charge a retail price for the fabric, and like mats, no, they don't get the fallout. For stock fabric, I have the shipping amortized into the price, for special orders I tag on shipping.

Less' price for the liner parted out was $288.00
I had to fudge a little to get the POS to give me a price on a 5" liner, but with a Lux Linen my pricing for essentially the same product came in a tad over $300.00, not that far apart really.
