I guess I'm Grumpy today. I just told a customer that had nothing in hand and wanted to waste my time to comeback with their art if they wanted a quote or anymore of my time.

An hour earlier, before I opened, I had someone knock on my door with something to frame. They had been in the night before but had a problem with their print and wanted to go back and get another undamaged one from a printshop. It was fine except they wanted to chit chat when I'm on deadline with a couple of orders and due out when I open. I took their print saying I can't let you in at this time call after I open if you need to discuss anything else about the order.

I feel like the Grump...

Drives me crazy. It is like playing hot potato! They come in stressed to the max, hand you the "project" and their stress is gone so they want to talk, but now you are holding the stress and want them to leave!

And how about the ones that one something framed after Christmas, have all the time in the world and can't make up their minds????

I had someone come in yesterday with samples in hand and hubby at her side.
We spent an hour and a half looking at mats and frames. Hubby gave her his opinion, I gave mine. She made a decision on one print and left with more samples telling me she'd be back in a couple of days.
I smiled and said it will be fine if you come back after Christmas.

Hint. Hint.

I be not so much Grumpy as exhausted and not so inclined to gab.

For those people who have just dropped stuff off, wanting it for Christmas, and wanting to chat about it, I just slowly ease myself back with their “art” in hand and say something like, “Well, I guess if I need to get this ready for Saturday, I’d better get started.”

Most of the folks take the hint, just nod appreciatively, and leave.

I feel like the Seven Dwarfs: Grumpy, Sleepy, Dopey, Goofy....

I had someone come in yesterday with 15 framing projects!! Beginning with "one-little-easy-one-that-I'll-need-by-Friday", and it turned out to be a big collage thing, multi-opening, etc. Fortunately his business partner called him on his cell phone and he had to go, said he'd be back to work on the others. I said, please not until after Christmas. So he e-mailed one more picture to add to the collage later, after I'd already oredered the mateials!

Others are coming in "just to chat and see how things are going, Oh, I bet you're busy this time of year!" No ****!!! I'm doing what Bill said,, "I'd better get to it if..." but it's hard to pry them off!

And "I drove by and saw the lights on in here at 11 last night, almost came in, but I know you must have a lot to do.....now, here's something I won't need for Christmas.....just a couple of days after will be okay."

Coffee.....more coffeeeeeee...on an IV pole!

I just had someone call in looking for a 14x18 ready-made. I've never seen one in that size, and told her so. She assured me that they make 14x18 ready-mades, and has seen them at Cheap Pete's, but she just didn't love any of them there.

Well.

So am I wrong? Do they make 14x18 ready-mades?

Sheesh, it takes everything in me to keep from getting short with every person who pokes their head in the shop to say 'hey,' whether they're a potential customer or well-meaning friend.

And the time bandits about do me in.

But I try very hard to stay mellow and gently ease them towards the door without them knowing that that's what I am doing.

I have them. And Michael's has a small assortment. It is a standard size, but not easy to find. That's why I have them.

Just had a "friend" call me at the store, wimpering in the phone how sick she is and how I need to call her and offer sympathy and an "Awwwhhh. I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well"

Sure!! I'm going to stop posting on the Grumble just to make HER feel better!!  :faintthud:

Um... I mean... I'm just too busy with all of my xmas work to get done by Friday!!

Yeah... That's it!!

What chaps me is when you rush like crazy, produce an excellent product beyond their expectations, on or before the request date ... then they come in to collect, gab on their cell phone all the time they are picking up, couldn't give a hoot about the artwork because all they really wanted it for was to satisfy some self imposed obligation to give a gift to someone the really don't care abut. Humbug. Humbug. Humbug

What really makes me laugh is that the last moron like this that came in this morning was some broad by the name of "Joy".. No freaking joy there! Joy my rear end!!!! Humbug.

Well, today I had nine pieces picked up for one customer. She needed most of them by yesterday, and I had all of them done in time. But rather than come in herself, she sent the hot Russian nanny. I wonder if her son knows how lucky he is...I suspect he does.

Val, the seven dwarfs are:
grumpy
sleepy
dopey
doc
bashful
sneezy
happy

Goofy is the Disney dog.

Okay, then make it eight Dwarfs and name the eighth one Goofy, and that's me right now.

Where are these weirdo people coming from?? Is it just because I'm a "bit" stressed right now and hypersensitive, or are people just bigger JERKS than normal? Or that I'm spoiled and rarely get JERKS in here and a handful of them are waaaaay enough, or is it that the BB's are turning away their usual JERKS and they're coming in here instead? All of the above??

I just had a lady pick up one that was dropped off yesterday, got it finished to get it out of my hair, and she puts her face up to the frame about 2" away and says "Worm holes! What are those little worm holes?? They weren't in this frame yesterday!! I don't want WORM HOLES!! They'll eat my painting!"

I said that's a distressed wood, they were there yesterday, you liked the "distressed look" yesterday, it's the same frame. She said "Oh....I did? Well, okay, as long as I liked it yesterday, then okay." (I want some of what she had yesterday!!)

Okay, so maybe I'm still Dopey and Grumpy and Sleepy.....and Goofy!

FRAMING IS FUN!!

Furst Brothers (www.furstbros.com) and BTW, our best selling sizes are 11 x 14 and 16 x 20. Saved many a sale with them!

Just read your article in PFM on framing the Korean War fabric mat. Very nice! A customer brought in a WWII fabric mat of her father's some time ago, but didn't go forward with framing it at the time. I guess the budgetary restraints of her BMW Z3 sports coupe prevented her from doing more than a couple of items. I should give her a call, though, and find out if she's still got the map unframed.

She thinks she's sick?

Now that's funny - I don't care who you are!
I just got back from "Doc in the Box". They wrote me 5 scripts and one of them was a compound of 3 meds in a Maalox base! I had no idea I was THAT sick. They made me promise to come back in the morning for full lab work - said I can crowd to the front of the line!
WARNING! Gross details - fever, strep, broncitis, kidney infection, etc. I didn't want to waste time going but the puss nodules in my throat were making me gag everytime I coughed. I got the award for worst throat!

Back to work!

Ah geeze Janet, thanks for that visual!!

Ne meither.

I'm feeling a bit the same way. Every time the phone rings I say out loud (BEFORE I pick up the phone) "NO! if we haven't called you then it's not done yet - you only dropped it off yesterday!!!"

And then of course I put on my professional cheery Christmas voice and they have no idea!

What gets me is "oh I have to have it on the 20th - I need 5 whole days to wrap it you know!" and then there are the ones who need it for Christmas and don't bother to pick it up! LOL!

I've been pretty good this year at telling the chatty people "well, I'd love to chat - but I really have a ton of stuff to get done in the next 3 days! Thanks for your order!

I love 9/10ths of my customers.......

A new customer picked up her three pictures today.

"OH MY GAWD BAER. YOU NAILED IT. Thats the best frame.. gush gush gush".

Boss is standing right there giving me the look of "Who IS this woman, and why can't we clone her?"

Help her out to her car. She's back in 15 minutes with 4 Grandes... "Didn't know what you might want or need, so I got a mix." Hug, and heads for door.

Turns "Oh, and after the holidays, I have a house full of stuff that needs done... I want you to come over and we'll go through it. And I do mean a couple of households combined before we move here."

I think I have a job for another month or so.;)

Clive.

I read mine in bed just before I fell asleep. Decor too (that didn't take long, boy, has that one changed over the years!) Wait...I slept?? When did I sleep?? And when I finally do, I DREAM about framing..there's no rest even in rest!!

Still......I'm lovin' it. Means my shop is doing well. Gratitude, gratitude, I spoke with another shop nearby a few days ago where they're wondering where everyone went this year.......they're cleaning right now! Not me!!!

Update you're just dying to hear!

OK, back to doc this morning for lab work. Doc says, Man, you're one sick little girl! White blood count over 16,000. Another butt shot, two more scripts which must be written by a real doctor so they'll be called in this morning - one is hydrocodone(?)
Half hour late opening but I don't think I missed anyone...Back to work! :faintthud:

Hydrocodone....ooooh, Sue! Don't be chopping or cutting glass or trying to act coherant while you're on that stuff. I don't know about anyone else, but #1) I'm allergic to it....makes me iiiitchy and nauseous and #2) I break out in an idiot.

It's an effective cough-suppresant, but it's also an opiate and a pretty strong pain-reliever.

Be careful....and I hope you feel better soon.....how on earth are you working??? (I know...."Cause I have to!!" ) I'd probably be doing the same thing.

Just be careful!!

Plenty o' sympathy for all!!

I thought I was bad when I'm sick, but she is a REAL whiner!!

It's a good thing, I kept a little aside for you.;)

I am actually on time...even a little ahead of schedule. Plan on Friday being my last day until January 2nd. Woohoo...a vacation!

Plans have a way of changing - I hope yours don't have to! I'm taking next week, too!

Sue,
What is this, it's less than one week until the big day, we can't have you sick and all. Get better, real soon, so you can help me with all of these shadow box's...

Clive.

I hear ya, Clive. It's my first Xmas season, and I'm not impressed. I've got six orders to complete by Saturday, and everything is under control. We've had six people come into the store this week (other than to pick up orders), and not a single sale. Ugh.

Yep, I'm still grumpy!

Y'all know the worst part about being sick? No taste buds!!!

I just sat down to the most yummy looking cheesy broccoli soup, put a big spoonful in my mouth, and ... nothing! What a waste! :icon20:

Sue,
Some one needs to make you some chicken soup, drink it by the gallons.
It's good for you, and makes you feel wark all over... Get better real soon...

Home made chicken noodle soup... MMMmmm... I'm hungry. I know I ate yesterday but do not believe I slowed down for anything today...

Sue, get some oranges or something that has some taste. Hope you're on the mend soon! No time is good to be sick, but being under the Christmas stress at work is REALLY tough.

Janet

I'm eating my first meal since the Ugly Food Poisoning Incident of Sunday Night. Before that... just homemade chicken soup. Jewish penicillin. Works swell! This has not been a diet I would recommend you try.
Other than that... half a Lifesaver page to go... down from TWO pages on Sunday evening. Man, are we all POOPED! 'Tis the season to make money, falalalala

I'm eating my first meal since the Ugly Food Poisoning Incident of Sunday Night. . half a Lifesaver page to go...

....For a minute there, I thought you meant those Lifesaver books we used to get every year in our stockings. So, a Lifesaver page would probably be a roll and-a-half.... Sorry, everyone was talking about food there, and I got distracted. Geeze, when was the last time I HAD a Lifesaver? Hmmmn.... butterscotch was always my favorite.

Sorry for the interruption. Carry on.

I wonder if they still make those Lifesaver books? What a great grandkid present! (If I had time to actually SHOP or something)...

Ellen, they do still make 'em. Every year, I put those in my son's stocking. He's 25 now. The other night I was at his house helping him decorate his tree and he opened a drawer in his kitchen and asked me to come and look. Inside the drawer were about 5 books of those Lifesavers. I don't think he'll need any this year!

Something we've been using since it came out for symptoms of colds and flue is Air Borne. It won't cure it, but it makes the symptoms MUCH more tolerable.

I'm pretty sure they make the lifesaver books and butter scotch was my favorite too.

I take medication only when necessary and I'm not much of an 'herbal healing' enthusiast, but I'm a big believer in Airborne. Gail and I both take it whenever we will be exposed to crowded places, such as restaurants or airports.

All my life I have had one or two colds or viruses per year, but I haven't had a virus in almost two years. That is very unusual, especially considering that I travel more now than ever before. The only difference between then and now is the Airborne.
