I am just venting... I should have opened up that frame in front of my client like I usually do.
The football jersey was attached to a single matboard using the attach-ez technique in a few spots without a foam insert and ATG on other spots. It's so hard to remove the ATG stuck on the jersey...arg....
The mounting board was a single matboard only and no other backing support was used so the matboard started to buckle due to the weight of the football jersey. The frame they used was as deep as the 3 inch deep LJ confetti frame and the glazing was held in place with clear 1/4 spacers that were glued using silicone. NO attempt to conceal the silicone, you can see the silicone from the front of the frame.

Just venting...thanks for listening... now back to work...

Now don't go calling it the Attach-EZ technique. Nothing about the mess you are describing has anything to do with Attach-EZ. If they had used my methods there would never have been any silicone, atg tape, or any other kind of adheisive used to attach that Jersey. It's ok to vent, because I would too if something were brought to me with that kind of damage done by a commercial framer. I can only teach people the right way to mount jersey's, but I can't make them listen or learn if they don't want to. There are some who just shouldn't be in the framing business. It sounds like your HL framer is one of them.

Troy: I feel your pain. Been there myself many a time, most recent being the Jamie Wyeth I posted in Picture Frame Design.

Just because someone has the tools doesn't mean they know how to use them. As I was reading his post, I'm remembering a girl who worked here for a week whom, being instructed on how to conservation hinge, proceeded to ATG a Hunter S. Thompson for Sherrif screen print to the backing board. We saved it, thankfully, caught it in time before the ATG had a chance to set.

Pat, I don't think Troy meant to be negative about Attach-EZ; from the sounds of it, whoever put it together really didn't know how to use the tools.

Now don't go calling it the Attach-EZ technique....

Now now, you'd think you had some kind of affinity for the Attach EZ :)

Reread the first sentence, the Attach EZ was used in a few spots, then the nightmare began :) Maybe the Attach EZ was too hard for the framer in question so they went with their tried and true method :)

Pat,
Sorry, I did not mean it to come out that way. I have and use attach-ez for jersey mounting. I was not complaining about the attach-ez, I was complaining about the ATG...

Regards,
Troy

I was actually trying to make a joke of it. Guess it didn't work. Sorry Troy. I know that it isn't funny but I hear stuff like this from framers all the time, and sometimes there is just nothing to do but laugh about the ignorance of people....and the really stupid things they do. Your HL framer was probably just some poor student who took a job they knew nothing about and was doing what they thougt was a good job. Ya gotta feel sorry for some of these kids. It's not their fault they haven't been taught the correct way.

Bob, you are right about the tried and true method, so let's hope that this HL framer never descovers Shoe Goo. Talk about a real mess...how ugly would that be....and even uglier to remove.

I think we found your next product. UnAttach EZ :) The cure for the framers' nightmare redos :) I think we have material for any and all ads you will ever need.
