ok seriously, what's going on around here?

More than half of our current orders in the shop right now are glass replacements for frames that have fallen off the wall. Is it just me? Has the local gravitational field suddenly increased? Are people in our area just becoming more clumsy? What gives?!

The stories I've heard so far include:
- Leaning a large frame against the wall on top of a fireplace mantle.
- "Hanging" a picture frame (11x14) using "sticky stuff, since they won't allow us to put nails in the wall"
- Mother-in-law/relatives bumping into frames
- Failure of the "Hercules Hook" (aka "Monkey Hook" spring steele hanger)
- Hanging system failure: customer installed wire across two staples in polystyrene frame

Mind you, not complaining, people are visiting us instead of the other guys. But for real! Anyone else seeing this trend? I have $500 worth of glass coming on the truck tomorrow to take care of all these people.

Back to work now!

No earthquakes that I know of. Usually I get glass replacement jobs when people move. Movers are my best friends, as I told a guy from Bekins the other day. I also get glass replacement jobs when people clean out their garages, and find those hideous 1980s-era frames leaning up against the garage wall under a thick layer of dust and gunk.

Wow! $500 in glass is some serious replacements.

Being in a tourist area, I get a lot this time of year. Most renters bring it in themselves so they can get their security deposit back. Oh... and the golfers in late winter are awesome customers. Many of them pay to replace the damaged frame also.

Same here. I do about $300 -$400 every month in glass replacements (this month way more than that because one job alone will run $150)

Reasons range from kids paying ball to old frames falling off the walls to damage due to person bumping into them (guest / cleaning lady / movers).

this is normal after a huricane, but that seems extreme unless maybe lots of sonic booms or earth shaking thunder..had that lately??

Great chance to upsell them.

I occasionally get a glass replacement job where the break is circular, and about the size of a human head. Invariably its the wife who brings those in, and she looks fine.

I've replaced glass that was the unfortunate victim of a misguided high heel shoe. The artwork didn't fare well either, but the woman didn't seemed concerned as it would be a visual reminder to the intended target.
