GPS problem Garmin Nuivi 1300

When I plug in the 12v charger the screen dims to then point where it is unreadable in daylight ( can see it ok at night ). This happens in both cars, so it's not a receptacle problem. This is my second new unit that has this same problem.....Normal battery operation is fine and only when I get low battery prompt and plug in the charger does it dim really bad.

I'm 70 miles from the Best Buy where I purchased it so before I make yet another trip can anybody tell me if this normal or what ?

That's normal when charging only. But it should brighten up when you switch it on or try to use the GPS or do whatever with it.
