yeah, those guys..... remember them?

Seriously, they are in business. They also have set up a call center to handle things directly. No, really, this isn't a hoax. . . and I'm being straight up on this.

Out of the blue, this guy Hector calls. (yeah, of course I gave him grief... no, I didn't tell him he had reached the TSA customer search hot line) So we talked, and it seems they are seriously trying to make up for past . . "service" problems.

So...... I told him I was going to post his name and direct phone number on the Grumble.... and he said 'OK'..... I figured he had no idea...

so here is the email he also sent, with all the info (including the special website just for us Professional Framers.... ) so you that feel a need, can give Hector a warm Grumble welcome. :D

[seriously, if it solves problems, I'm all for it]

That's a decent little site if you like Flash content. The mouse-over closeups of color swatches is effective. The discontinued list seems to be pretty current. The touting of 2010 color trends is still front and center, with 2011 just 43 days away. (I never could understand the heavy allocation of company resources into the focus on color trends, when our selection process is based on the needs of the particular art that our customers bring us.) The only thing that still seems to be missing in action is any mention of how to obtain corner samples.

I got a call a while back from them.

I talked to them a bit, too...and they really DO seem to be putting a good foot forward.

I got my sample set updated.

:)

Has anyone had the printing on the corner samples smear all over the face on the sample it's up against in the rack?

Baer, you might not want to answer your phone when Hector calls you back, after we all bombard him with phone calls.

I called them about a month ago about getting new samples. I specifically asked for the white cores and the selects. Mine are so nasty, I have to apologize to my customers when I show my best sellers.

Little did I know that they were going on strike then. The man I talked to gave me the most evil laugh, I have ever heard. And I swear, he was eating his lunch while he was talking to me.

I did receive a box of samples, but they were the regular paper mats, not what I ordered. I guess I should feel lucky that I got those.

Gawd, I miss Viola!

Yup, gonna give Hector a call tommorrow. Thanks for the heads up, Baer. You da Man!

Hector called me twice since I've been at my new gig wanting to make sure that I had received my new samples... which I had. I appreciate having that contact and really have no problems with Crescent at all... nor Bainbridge... nor LJ's Artique.

Libby is correct, there is a whole phone center, and it's not in Mumbai; a well aimed AK-47 round can hit it from outer Chicago.... (OK, Shrumberg maybe).

The center's number is 888-293-3956 . . he said that samples do cost ( gee, where did that come from?) but they have plenty of specifiers and items to ship out immediately.

I'd love to get a "over-loaded" email from Hector.... but more, I'd like to hear back from framers that there is "something that works".

The Mat Specifier booklets for Select and Rag are out of stock, I just double checked.
Thanks for the heads up Baer, and have a Great Framing day.

Someone from Crescent (probably not Hector) called us this week. They were going to send us corner samples - for $100 a set! We told them we've been trying to get samples for an entire year - it's true - and so the person said they'd send them 'no charge.'

I'm not too excited about Crescent...not at all.

Yea, Hector was the guy I spoke with this summer and had some corner samples the very next week. I received all the ones I ordered except the Select. He said they were still working on production of those at that time. Maybe I'll give him another call.

By the way, he was great to talk to, was honest and followed through with everything he said he was going to do. I was shocked at the transformation of customer service!

You're a hard man to read Mr Murrow......

so you are excited if the corners show up . . . or you're so over them you could care less?

Sorry I'm hard to follow, Baer. We were initially excited about getting samples from Crescent (a year ago, when we first requested them). Then after a few weeks...then after a few months...and then after two of our suppliers tried to help us get the samples...it's turned into "who cares?" on my part. When this fellow called last week and said they normally charge $100 a set, we were taken aback. If they hadn't offered to send the corners to us for no charge, since we've been trying for an entire year to get them, we'd have declined them altogether.

On the other hand, Peterboro shipped us the full set of complementary samples immediately and we've been very pleased with them.

... they normally charge $100 a set, ...

I've never known Crescent to charge for corner samples. They may have just been emphasizing the fact that there is a large cost associated with providing samples.

I don't have an issue with mat board companies charging for samples. I do think they should offer coupons with the purchase of samples, to be used when buying their products.

I think the way Crescent has dropped the ball in regards to supplying their distributors with samples as well as sending us those gosh awful specifiers with the painted colors rather then the chips, has opened the door for other mat companies.

I've switched to Peterboro/Hampton and I've also used more Canterbury/Bainbridge now. Crescent will have to wait for these companies to falter before I move back to their products.
