I'm using AVG and recently downloaded the Google Page Rank Tool Bar. Now I constantly get a warning from AVG about Spyware. I am given an option to stop the warnings for this occurance but I'm not positive it is the Page Rank tool bar. When I look it up as AVG suggests it tells me they have no information.

I normally wouldn't worry but I let GeAnn's son use the laptop for a couple of months and just want to be sure. He was into all kinds of gaming and other carp that could be causing it but it took a month before appearing.

the toolbar does send some info back to them about what page you want the info for, so it can calculate the pagerank. this could be identified as spyware of sorts. it does remind of you this before you enable the pr feature, and is harmless. for some reason i cant type anything in uppercase, so sorry about the lowercase typing. i think this pc needs a reboot :)

as far as avg, is it the free version or the pro/paid version? the free version has been very disappointing lately and is checking for less than 50% of the bugs out there. i discourage folks from trusting it, whenever possible.

what you can do for a second opinion is visit this website and do a full (free) scan. then install the software below and do another scan. this will make sure there are bo bugs that got by avg.

free web scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

free malware scan: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Thanks Mike I'll give it a try when I get home. I'm using the free version. I have anti-virus with Time Warner that can also be used.

you'll be better off with the free one from the isp.

if you want a real good one, i suggest www.kaspersky.com and their antivirus version (the lower priced one). it finds everything, without slowdown. it even checks programs you have installed (flash, quicktime, microsoft office, etc) and lets you know if any of them are outdated and contain known security exploits. it then links you to the "fix" at each vendor's website. a very worthy investment for a reasonable yearly fee.

wow i miss being able to type in uppercase!!! :)

Brief frankenthread.
My wife (who is a self-described techno-dummy) taught ME that you can hold the key for about a half second to capitalize on a Blackberry...
