I have a job to frame a set of clubs, (24x60') I was thinking about using a plywood backing for structure with my linen wrapped matboard backing glued to it, for attaching the clubs I was thinking about zerlon or guitar strings but thought I would inqure if anyone has any thoughts of something else or...

thanks

I've framed 2 full sets using mylar strips for a local club 7 years ago. Both still look great and haven't moved an inch.

gator board instead of plywood...formed rods work great on these.

I have exactly the same project on the books. I will be crossing the top of the clubs and securing them with mylar. The mat will be o/s, so I plan to texture the mat B8448 and then shadowbox the works in Larson 540 mah. I will not be using plywood for backing.

Here are a few examples. Still looking for pictures of a few more. fyi...I also use gator as a backboard.

Gator comes in various thicknesses, but 3/16 is probably fine.

Coroplast would be an good alternative. If you are using bent rods, the coroplast makes a good substrate because you can insert the bent rods in the flutes, then fill with hot glue for stability.

EZ-Tach works great for Golf Clubs.

Mike - type "formed rods" into the search engine at the top of your page and you will find more than you could possibly want to learn about them.

I know this was a long time ago,but what did you use to attach the clubs,? I have a putter with a signed cover that's going to be framed. Thanks

I suggest using clear film straps and 10 mm Coroplast backing, lined with fabric or 4-ply board.

You might also have to place spacers under some of the straps to elevate the mounting points; cuts of clear acrylic work well for that, or cuts of Coroplast covered to match the background.

Hi, claferty. Just now found your private note, and I'm very glad to see
this thread. The only reason it says Framing God after my name is that
it's based on post count, and I post quite a bit Aside from that, I'm just
a lady who works at a little shop. But the fellow who answered you is one
of the experts, who gives workshops and writes books. Any advice he
gives is to be thought well of. Also, you can do an archive search by
typing your term into that blank space at upper right, then clicking on
that magnifying glass to the right. Gotta scoot. On lunch. Over and out...
