It seems like I never am able to contribute here and always seem to be looking for answers. Thanks to everyone who responds to my questions.

I have a beautiful wood frame put together that has a gold metallic trim on the inside edge where the glass sits. Small specks seem to work their way onto the mat board when I use my point gun to finish.

Does anybody have any ideas what I could seal this with to stop this from happening?

Thanks again,
Lori

The gold paint or metal leaf or whatever the gold happens to be is flaking off because it isn't sticking to the underside of the frame, possibly because of the smoothness of the finish or some foreign substance on that surface of the frame. Spraying anything over that area won't necessarily stop the gold from flaking, it may still flake along with whatever you spray on top of it.

I would try brushing the rabbet area of the frame and anywhere on the back side of the frame where there is gold stuff present with a stiff bristle brush, maybe an old toothbrush. This should dislodge most of the loose gold and make the fitting easier for you to do.

If the problem persists, you can try taping the mat/glass/print/backing board package together around the edges with Scotch 910 tape to seal the edges from intrusion of those little gold flecks. The tape won't do any harm and it may keep you from doing something drastic with your customer's artwork!

Good luck.

Sometimes if you tape over the foamcore overlapping the edge of the frame and then putting in the framer points it will keep those annoying flakes out.

Thankyou. I brushed the inside and vacuumed it out. I then used your tape suggestion and it worked like a charm.

Thanks so much,
Lori

I agree with the above suggestions but there was once when it failed me.

For some reason the tape kept pulling up from the edges so, I taped inside the rabbit of the frame and it worked fine. (Held all those little specks down)

I hate taking out prints out of old frames for just this reason! Every time you try to put it together the gold from the lip migrates under the glass.

Now I tape up the glass and mat like you do on the FrameTek Rabbet extender video. Saves huge headaches when putting the old frame package back together!
