Having a senior moment. Does the glazed side of conservation clear glass go toward the art?
I remembered how to detect the side that is glazed.

BTW: Working on my first frame since closing the shop over two years ago.

The side that can be scratched is on the inside so it doesn't get scratched.

As Jeff says.

I keep a razor blade next to the cutter, and next to the fitting table so when I have my senior moments, I can remember the coating scratches. Also, score the non coated side.

Good luck...I'm having my senior moments today, and just did a 1/16 inch overcut on a window. The customer is 86 and has eye problems, so she probably wouldn't know, but I would know, so I am re-cutting. aaaaaah.

Thanks guys. Didn't know how much I would forget in two years. :(

The coated side goes toward the inside, to avoid scratching it. The only exception is the newer-design Conservation Reflection Control glass. It is coated, not etched, and the UV filter is included with the coating, so it must go to the outside of the frame.

For proper cutting, look for the serrated edge, which is exaggerated in this photograph. If you always cut the side that has been cut before, you will never go wrong.

Note: While some inventory of this newer-design Conservation Refection Control glass may remain in distributors' inventories, Tru Vue is going back to the original etching process with the UV filter on the inside. So, in the future, when you order Conservation Reflection Control glass and your distributor delivers the older design, that's why.

For cutting, the suggestion given in post #8 above still works: Cut the side that has been previously cut at the factory, and you'll never go wrong. Just 'read' the edge of the sheet.
