I'm framing a 24x36 poster. I'm thinking I should use acrylic instead of glass because of the weight. Do you agree? However, there are no mats. So should spacers be used with acrylic?

Weight difference is 1.5 pounds. Unless you are using some huge 6" wide frame the whole deal is 8-15 pounds.

Is there some special value to the poster that you would even consider spacers. The reason posters would stick to glass or acrylic is that people store them in their attic, basement or garage. Sure doesn't seem like very respectable treatment for their treasured artifacts.

glass is cheaper and less of a headache. i go with glass until its over 40x60 ,or the customer asks for it, but i got long arms to move things around that are heavier.

Contact

If a glazing material will be in contact with paper, acrylic sheet will have fewer problems than glass, since it is less likely to encounter condensation.

With run-of-the-mill open-stock prints and posters we mount on HDF and laminate, then frame. No reflection, lighter than glass, and good margins. Plus, the laminate has a good UV-filtering capacity.
