I have a customer who brought in a Van Gogh poster. He wants it framed like a canvas using a linen liner and an outside frame. He wants conservation clear glass on it. My question is - can the glass sit right on the linen liner or should I use 1/8" spacemaker between glass and linen liner?
Thanks, DS

Glass on the linen liner is fine. Don't move it around if you can help it because it can scratch. People have requested it this way because it keeps the liner from getting dirty, in time.

Or you can move it around and put the glass under the linen liner. Customers have requested it both ways...and both are just fine.

I put the glass on top of the liner all the time and it works out great. It has a two fold protection, keep the liner clean, keep the art of the glass. Just remember to charge for the size glass to fit the frame and not the liner. If the photo is 16x20 the glass might be 18x22 and then you have to cut it out of a larger sheet. I sell it that way telling the customer the savings of the cost of spacers but the not having to clean the liner is always a win too.

Don't "toe-nail" the liner to the frame. One of my co-workers did this once. and broke the glass.

Staples and points are fine.
