The website for this product is here: http://www.breathingcolor.com/bc/catalog/index.php

A friend of mine swears by this product for sealing and protecting inkjet prints on canvas. It is easily applied with a roller and coats the surface making it durable enough to handle safely and (allegedly) providing some ultraviolet protection.

My interest stems from a Chinese watercolour on ricepaper 2400mm x 1200 mm which a customer brought in for framing. I can get it mounted onto Kapafix easily enough as it is not culturally or artistically important but any glazing, glass or acrylic, will weigh roughly 28kg and I don't want a hernia. Laminating is impractical as the paper has multiple creases from careless handling and there is some impasto as well as the usual loose fibres common in rice paper. If the giclee varnish is suitable it could be the ideal solution.

Has anyone ever used this giclee varnish or any similar products on ricepaper paintings?

Just an update:

I emailed the company which distributes this product in Australia and received only the usual buttcovering litany that "this product is only recommended for use on our own products and has not been tested on anything else. Use it at your own risk."

Has anyone ever found anything else which can safely be applied to porous paper to make it a little more durable?

I use the product on canvas. Yes you can roll it, but it is hard to get the roller marks out. I just bought a HVLP sprayer that works like a charm with it. BTW you thin this down 50-50 with water to spray.

What is a HVLP sprayer, and how much does it cost?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I've used the stuff, but I have the same problem with the roller marks.

HVLP = High Volume Low Pressure

I got mine from Woodcraft and it was $99.99. The unit is self contained so you don't need to run air lines and change the pressure on your compressor or add a valve.

This one is only 4 PSI which allows the spray to go on wet and not as atomized like a higher pressure sprayer.

The last job I did with this sprayer, I mixed up 1/2 of a standard Styrofoam cup of Glamour II with equal amount of bottled water. This was enough to spray 6 32x40 canvases.

Thanks, I'll order some Monday.
