I just received a sample of Baroque Art Gilders Paste to try. It is used as nail filler and/or repair work for mouldings. The difference from our usual wax product is that it dries in 30 to 60 minutes and can be buffed in 12 hrs. if desired. Has anyone used this product - any feedback?

They have a website:

Yes, met the inventor in Vegas. Nice guy. Said there are so many uses at this point the list is growing instead of stopping. People are painting panels in frames with this, using it as an over finish over a prefininshed moulding, wipe on leave on-wipe on wipe some off. Just neat stuff, the colors can be mixed if I remember correctly, and there is like 50 colors or more? Stuff seems great for the bit that I got to use it.

Sherry: I've used it and we are stocking the metallic colors for sale at Superior Moulding in Mpls.
The stuff is a great alternative for nail holes and general touch up as it dries hard over time and its able to be rejuvinated with mineral spirits if it dries out in the tin. Its a highly pigmented wax and comes in 28 colors, 11 of which are metallic.

I would love to try this stuff... I've always wondered why framers putty never hardened, making it messy whenever you brush against the end of a puttied frame. I like the fact that the gilders paste hardenens quickly, but can be rejuvinated and buffed, and used as a finish.... seems like good stuff.... but I can't help but wonder if there is a drawback to using this.

Sounds like Rub'n'Buff, Treasure Gold, Goldfinger, Liberon etc. Is there something different about this product or is it the marketing? (nothing wrong with that, more power to 'em). For a hardening filler my preference is usually to mix dry pigment with glue.
