Just got this email from my LJ rep.

Hello everyone,

I am happy to announce that as of March 26th, 2007 Larson Juhl will have Crescent Gatorfoam in stock at all warehouses.

We also will be adding at the same time a larger box size of 32x40 Museum glass to offer a price advantage for those who use a lot of Museum Glass.

HOT Beans! ;)

Do we know what thicknesses they're stocking?

Thanks, jPaul

I asked them this morning when I was placing an order ... they said that in LA they would be carrying 3/16 and 1/2 starting March 26th.

I justed talked to LJ customer service and they confirmed the 3/26 date for Detroit too.

They will carry:

3/16" in 32X40 white only published general pricing $ 18.60 sheet
3/16" in 48X96 wht $ 52.95 & blk $55.87
1/2" in 48X96 wht $ 74.99 & blk $ 78.95

The above pricing is per sheet price and savings can be realized if ordering full cartons. I believe 25 on 32X40 3/16"...15 on 48X96 3/16" and 12 sheets on 1/2" 48X96 both blk and wht.

This is their general published price.

Any mounting where stiffness is required and there is no frame support.

Also, photogs love gatorboard mountings in thicker 1" mounts without frames.

However there are outgassing problems with gatorboard such that it would probably be a poor candidate for most shadowbox construction or preservation framing techniques.

Excellent for POP displays, table top exhibits, and the like or signage...both indoor and outdoor. Can be cut with a jigsaw so that logos can be cut out of it, etc. Excellent as a substrate base for architectural models.

Used often in the tradeshow, signage, museum display industries.

Good links Dave,

Doesn't mean anything but found it interesting that they don't list Custom Frame Shops as one of the markets for the product.

That's OK! We'll use it anyway.
Now if LJ would just start carrying Coroplast!

this is great news

I do a lot of mounting for photographers and, despite my best efforts, they always want 1/2" gator in black. Guess I wasn't the only one that kept asking LJ to stock it.

Still, I can beat those prices at my local art store.

I've never seen it locally (of course I haven't looked) Keep in mind that those prices are list not taking into account your particular discount. And if you have delievery that is worth a lot, if you don't have to spend time running around to pick it up!

I had it available from a sign supply wholesaler for about the same price, but they charged $ 20.00 for delivery.

Kinda pricey. I just got 5 sheets of the 48 x 96 (3/16”) from Don Mar at $40.62/sht with no quantity discount.

I'm still recovering from the "Gator-ache" headache.

thanks to all who have shared information and links. Your comments are very helpful.

Boo!!!!Gator board bad, use Coroplast!!!!Yay!!!!

Patrick ...I understand what you're saying and appreciate how you say it, but they really are two different animals.

Coroplast (or Cor-X) = rigid, archival, moisture proof, light weight, bumpy surface not suitable for paper mounting. Available in limited colors, great as backer for strengthening rag board and other boards or heavy fabrics mounting, guillotine cuttable. Can be used outside or inside for short term display. Strength is directional such that care should be taken to utilize flutes to best advantage.

GatorFoam = rigid, non-archival, smooth surface, relatively light weight, ideal mounting surface. Available in limited colors, not suitable to cut on guillotine cutter. Can be used outside or inside for permanet display. Must seal for outdoor use, easily paintable. Strength is not directional, very stable.
