Over 40 years in retail I've have 2 uncollected checks. The last one was 5 months ago. Lady just dissappeared, no contact.

Yesterday she walked in asking about a job and filled out a job application. I went in back looking for the check but could not locate it quickly. It was at home in the files. I can't wait to get her back for her 2nd interview:popc:.

Oh, yeah... I got the popcorn all ready for this one!!:popc::popc::popc::popc::popc::popc::popc::popc:

The easy solution would be not to say anything at the next interview about it, hire her for a period where she’d be able to pay off the debt, then garnish her wages.

… but, beating the carp out of her would be more satisfying.

If she's written so many bad checks that she can't remember who she wrote them all to you might not want her back in your shop for any length of time. Bill's idea of garnishing her wages only works if she doesn't steal you blind in the process.
If the statute of limitations hasn't expired, you might want the local constabulatory there for the second interview. Writing bad checks can get you a little jail time around here.
They call it "uttering a false document" I think.

I vote for Wally's idea!!!

Have the cops there for the second "interview"!!

Is that ever rich! Waiting for epilogue..... :popc:

Getting her back in with hopes of collecting this on your own is not going to happen. She probably didn't have the money when she wrote the check and chances are has less then that now.

I would contact the local police/sheriff etc and ask for their guidance.

That is just too funny.....can't wait to hear the follow up (if she ever shows again....)

Don't know what I would do for follow up, probably depends a little on the amount the bad check was for.
If huge; I'd involve the police. If not; I'd have myself a little fun.

Now this is just plain mean, but when you contact her about the second interview, you could drop a hint about a special bonus for new hires...(3 square meals and a warm place to....sleep).

Wow, I wonder whether she is clueless or just incredibly nervy.
:popc: Rick

Bill did move his shop to a new location. Maybe she's confused because of that.

Even if she knows it's the same shop, she may have no clue she bounced the check.

I know that's hard to understand, but I have known people in the past that rounded all checks up or down to the nearest dollar in their check register, then would call the bank "periodically" and "reset" the register to whatever the bank told them was the balance. yep, no interest in outstanding checks or whatever.

There are actually a lot of circumstances and situations (or lack of intelligence/training) where people are truly unaware.

I would politely "remember" that she was the one that gave the bad check and see what her response is.

I wouldn't involve the authorities unless you had to.

Cliff's response, although not as humorous as other responses, is the reasonable one.

Hopefully he has a good contact number now. Cant wait to see how this turns out.:popc:

Do it with her own shoes, too ...satisfying! L

:popc:Priceless.

I believe I'd get all of their most recent information including their social security number...hire them for a few hours...issue them a pair of glass gloves...charge a huge uniform fee out of their first (and only) paycheck ...

And their job? Grunt work only. Unless its bad check collection calls, of course. Imagine seeing their eyebrows shoot up.

Oh, and then I'd fire them.

We are all champing at the bit for the most recent news! Amazing. Being from Chicago, I have zero tolerance for criminals - one of my friends was just beaten up on the subway - in front of his young son. Makes my blood boil...
