Here is a fun project that I finished today
Even delivered to the customer and helped them put it on the wall

thanks to the GFU Missouri City Location for helping me do the patch cut outs on their wizard

I finally broke down and ordered a Wizard so hopefully my next one will be done on the Wizard when it gets here in a couple of weeks

Used the sports clips from Les at Tudor Glass
(this is my second set to use and they are a awesome product to protect the baseballs)

the bat is sewn in use three points along the bat

by the way the bat is a game used bat from Lance Berkman of the Houston Astros

This was my first time using Museum Glass and I am very impressed with the results
let me know what you all think.

Here are some pics of the sports clips in use

Let me know if anyone is interested in these as I am going to order a large qty from Les @ Tudor Glass

these come from Australia and shipping can get expensive so the more we can get in one shipment the better

let me know
thanks
jg

Looks Great!

By the looks of things sitting around, someone does alot of sprots framing.

Thanks

yes I do a lot of sports framing pretty much 98% of my business is sports

I do other jobs also but mainly for my repeat customers for their Christmas presents to their families.

Hey Josh,
Another nice job : )

Thanks for the 'plug' again too.

Say, did you use my supplied fittings with those ?
Just not clear in the pics . . . could be those little acrylic thingos from someone like Mighty Mounts ? (Or my eyes could be failing : /)

If so, then we could save a bit of weight (shipping cost) by leaving the little bolts, washers and fittings out.

How did you mount the bat ?
I do the bat mounts too, but having learned a bit about mounting things from Jim Millers postings, Mylar straps would work fairly effectively for horizontal mounting.
Now vertical or angled mountings would see mine come into their own.

Les, I opted not to use the bolts you sent after all I changed them out with nylon screws washers and nuts

the bolts you sent slightly touched the ball and I didn't want any contact with the ball from them so I changed them out. I wont be needing them anymore when I reorder. I am going to just use the nylon from now on.

As for the bat I sewed it in three places to the backing board

I tried to sell your bat clip to the customer but they want the bat to look as it was floating and not attached to anything

so you know the old saying
" the customer is alway right, no matter what ."

even though I do not agree with them that is what they wanted

thanks again
josh

Thanks for that feedback Josh.

I'll e-mail you about the screw heads, just to confirm . . . but the countersunk heads should be under the surface of the acrylic about 1mm (1/16") or so, certainly not protruding.

I'll check what clips I have at the shop and confirm with a follow up to you.
The clips have the countersunk in the acrylic at the fixing point and should be more than adequate depth to take the whole screw / bolt head.

Certainly I've thought about the plastic type fitting as seen through Mighty Mounts and other clip makers, but always though the solid c/sunk bolts, washers, and nuts of steel would be more 'bulletproof' to hold very long term.

I imagine the plastic clips must protrude well above the acrylic surface, hopefully not holding the ball too far out ?

Anyway, will e-mail in a couple of days, we have a public holiday here tomorrow (Monday) for a horse race carnival : ) Any excuse for a holday !

Great job, Josh. Those baseball clips certainly look like they work like a charm.
I think I may have skipped using the extra red & black borders around the opening for the "4 patches area", (i.e. just had the red layer with the Wizard cutouts immediately below your top black mat) as it looks a bit busy so close to the black/red outside double mat border.

Les, I'm curious why Mylar straps wouldn't work for a vertical or angled mounting of a bat?

I am fairly new to framing. I have been doing some shadow boxes lately. I don't know anything about the mylar strips. Where would I learn about using them. Thank you for any information.

Kathleen, go to the search funtion tab at the top of the page. Click on advanced search, and type Mylar and then on the right hand side type in Jim Miller /find all posts. You will find an abundance of threads about subject in which Jim has posted. He is the undisbuted resident expert on this subject.

Wow, Josh, what a great job, and nice that your friend's Wizard helped push you over the edge to get one for yourself! You're gonna love it!

I'm curious, what material did you use to sew on the bat?

I found this thread at a fabric store that was pretty heavy duty
people use it on heavy quilts

thanks

Second thinking it Karen, with the knob at the top of the bat, Mylar straps would work ok.

You'd probably need some sort of little support under the bat handle, so it stayed parallel to the backing ?
My mount has a gooseneck where the handle clips in, keeping it straight.

Funny thing about the fabric store

I went in and asked where the thread was
didn't look to see that I was the only guy in there and I got some weird looks as I was looking in the sewing section.

I bet there were some comments made once I left
