After about three years in business I am able to do what I think I should do....that being to attend a Framing School! I have not been fortunate enough to learn this craft firsthand from an experencied framer. I have learned by reading, trial and error, etc. I get along fine....I do turn out a quality product...but I want more!
I know there are several schools ( the latest issue of Framing Business News lists the main ones) but I need some input from my fellow Grumblers. I live in northcentral Indiana. There is a LJ school in Chicago. One week...$795. My brother lives in Chicago...free R&B! Of course I know "of" LJ even though we do not currently carry any of their mouldings, etc. Does anyone have any experience with this school or any others? And what are your thoughts on Framing Schools in general? I know I can attend seminars at various trade shows (have done a couple) but a week long "intense" type training may be better....
I know I can't learn it all at one of these things but I don't know what else could be as much help.
Any thoughts???

Last year I attended United Mfrs. school on Long Island, NY and really learned a lot. The teacher was Ray Dwyer and he was wonderful. He also teaches at his place in Idaho. Here in his web address http://www.westartframing.com/ and you can take a look. He has many of his works on display.

Schools are very costly but it is intense training over the course of 4 or 5 days. I know a lot of people have done different routes &/or schools but I really enjoyed myself and learned a lot.

I am new to framing but just attended a 5 day course in Fort Lauderdale at Complete Framers Supply taught by Pam Macfaden CPF a grumbler here on this site. Class was excellant, I was lucky, there were only two students, usually 6-8. I think the course was only $549.00. Of course no free room and board, but the weather is a lot nicer than Chicago right now. You can find CFS on the web, or contact Pam here on the site, I think they have classes once a month

The Canadain Picture Framers school in Langley, Brtish Columbia is very good. Several of our customers both from Canada & US have completed the program. They offer a 1 week basic and 1 week advanced class. I am not sure about the cost, but I know your US dollar goes along way up here. They also have a school in Ontario (it may be closer to you?) I don't know too much about this particular school\, but it is run by diffrent people
