framing photo on silk

You did not mention the size.

Have you considered the "Newberry Method"? It's basically taking the fallout from a mat and using it as a wedge to hold the fabric in place behind the fabric and into the mat opening.

What sort of condition is the silk in and how much border (if any) have you got?

I have found that if you can 'soft' dry mount silks by pre-mounting drymount film on a board (with the release paper left on top) and when it's cool, peel the release paper and position the silk. Back in the press for a very quick, low pressure. low temp squeeze. Virtually up to pressure and switch off.
The aim is to get a firm grip without the adhesive penetrating the silk too far. If you do it right you can peel the silk off again quite easily, but it will stay clinging on. I wouldn't do this on anything remotely valuable, but it's an option.

I must have gone blank - done that before with other fabrics. That sounds like the way to go. Thanks. BTW it's about 12x14

I successfully used the Newberry approach on a think silk handkerchief. Just be careful not to put too much stress on the fabric at the junction of the border and fallout.
