I have a 72" x 48" oriental carpet which I plan to mount on fiberboard using stainless staples. The customer wants a 2 1/2" poly expander to go with a 3" gold gilded wood moulding. This particular expander has a 1/4" rebate making it difficult to keep the staples from showing underneath the glass. Any ideas on mounting carpets like this?

The easiest way to cover the staples would be to add a fillet to the 1/4" rebate so that it is now a 3/4" rebate. You could hide a BIG bunch of stuff under THAT!

Thanks for that suggestion Ellen! I was thinking of adding that fillet but my customer might have a fit with the additional charge..

Find a 'cheapie' one and include it. This is much less aggravation than trying to cover up the staples or work in too narrow a space. Maybe you can talk a sales rep into giving you a deal on something that they would like to get rid of, and maybe even he/she would bring it along when visiting next. PS: Never assume the customer will have a fit until the fit is apparent. Tell her that the design needs this extra element, and that you will even discount it a little for her... cause you are just such a nice guy.
