I've checked the archives without success, so I need to ask the experts. A local artist is preparing for a showing of his oil paintings this summer. I'm cutting frames for him, but we both agree that the pictures should be dry before they are fitted in the frames. They may not be totally dry by show time...so, what can I line the frames with to keep the edges from sticking? Lineco's Frame Sealing Tape will stick to the painting. Is there a teflon tape available? I'm sure somebody on the Grumble knows the answer!
Thanks

There is nothing you can put on the frame that will prevent the paint from sticking.

The only thing you can do is float the canvas so it sits off the lip. You can do this a few ways. I think the easiest is to staple black 4-ply to the edge of the canvas so it protrudes past the front of the painting about 1/4".

Depends HOW not dry they are, but I always line the lip of frames for oil paintings with velvet tape made specifically for this purpose. Look in university products or Light impressions catalouges, I forget where I got it. I have a surplus if you want to just buy some from me. If the paintings are real sticky really nothing will help. The velvet is standard conservation procedure.
