This is the end result of my recent topic of the same title on the grumble recently.

I tried a foamcore sink mat first, but it had too much give, so I made a box from battens which I adjusted to the correct depth with a strip of foamcore.

Before I mitred the batten I peeled the surface off a strip of the suedette matboard and wrapped it around it. But I had made the box JUST too big, so I lined it with strips of board, the crystal squeezed in - just.

The lined box doesn't look too pretty in the bottom photo, but all that mattered was that the inside of the box was perfect.

Even though the fillet aperture is just a bit smaller then the box, you still see all the crystal as it is set back about 3mm from the glass.

Customer's choice of mat colour/width, I may have gone for dark blue.

Thanks to everyone who posted ideas on the grumble.

Looks terrific. Guess I missed the original post. What type of being thrust their digits into molten glass to form the impressions?

A baby Terry... very extraterrestrial and cosmic John..

well handled... now clean up the back and lets go throw some beer and drink darts.

A baby Terry
A cosmic extraterrestial time traveller?
You know what I really like about it? The frame, mat, fillet selection seem right but I really like the way the crystal fills the opening. Reminds me of Rene Magritte filling a room with an apple or a flower. Gives it a bigger than life feel.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

I didn't mention the moulding - the reference would be useless to you in The States, but the finish is identical to Larson Juhl's silver 'Radiance'. Deep rebate, black sides and lip, the fillet is the thinnest you can buy, (3mm) made by Albor - Italy

Mountboard is 'Cabernet' suedette from a UK company called ARQADIA - owned by Larson Juhl.

Arqadia are the most efficient framing supplier in UK - streets ahead. Place an order with them and you have one hour to add to it - too late after that, it's on its way. Problems such as damage or wrong stuff sent? No problem, credit note on your mat next day, closely followed by replacement goods.

I try to be to my customers what Arqadia is to me........

I'm waffling on thanks again
