I need to know the correct way to mount two linen communion cloths on suede. One cloth measures 51"x42" and will be folded so that only one corner measuring 12" square will be viewed. The other measures 26" square and will be folded so a 9" square will be viewed. They will be arranged in the shape of a diamond with the smaller overlapping the bottom edge of the larger. I'm not sure how to mount these when they are folded. Any suggestions?

You'll want to stitch them down with cotton thread that blends with the color of the linen.

I'm sure there are framers who have found a more efficient way to stitch textiles down than the way I do it. I find it useful to use a brad in a small power drill (actually a cordless screwdriver with a chuck) to pre-drill the holes in the suede.

I'll thread a manageable length of thread, push it up through a hole, loop it through the textile and then back through the same hole. When I run out of thread, I'll temporarily secure the loose ends on the back of the board with framer's tape.

When I've done enough stitches to secure the textile the way I want, I'll go around with PVA adhesive on a q-tip and put little dabs on the threads close to each hole (on the back of the board!) to secure it when the tape lets go. Then I'll back the whole thing with ArtCare foam or Coroplast.

Maybe I'll take a class in Atlanta and find out how many hours I've wasted in 26 years of doing it this way.

I would use cotton or linen quilting thread. I use a plyer and needle to make the holes, have a layer of foam board below for the needle pin or drill to go into. It's a trial and error situation sometimes. I start with the bottom layer and work my way up and out from the center.

Sorry to be so slow to offer a BIG THANKS for the input - great advice! I'm new to the forum and was having a hard time trying to find the reply button - guess one needs to read to the bottom of the page! So my next question (which Ron already got in a private email because I COULD figure that out) is: how does one go about pricing the project?

I basically use Ron's method, but I tie off the thread to the thread before it rather than taping it and then gluing it. I learned a very valuable lesson about the gluing it part. Sometimes the glue seeps through onto the fabric, no matter how frugal the amount, and then when the project is reversed there are glue stains.

Not a happy experience. Besides, wouldn't the glue eventually come loose?
