I have been given a piece of art to frame. It is comprised of 16 individual 4" ceramic tiles mounted to 1/2" cement board. The surface is so wavy that you cannot use regular molding. But if I use a float frame (the back is even)- how would I mount it -adhesive would be permanent so if the frame broke there would be problems. The whole thing weighs about 10lbs and is 18x18".

Hi, Edward. Is the outside of it in square? Is there extra cement board
out past the edges of the tiles, or do they go all the way to the edge?

I just mounted some tiles to a piece of hardboard, using an appropriate epoxy, and then framed that. While the mounting to the backing board is permanent, the frame is not, and it could be replaced should it be damaged or go out of style.

Use mastik to adhere the wonderboard to plywood and screw into the plywood.

The cement board is exactly the same size as the finished tiles. I do like the idea of gluing plywood to the back and then float mount as suggested by Jeff.
