Have you been using the Framerica "paper-wrapped" wooden mouldings? What is your opinion on the quality? Any problems, like mouldings returned because of the paper pealing off, color fading, etc.? I am so disgusted with the well-known hard and thick gesso :smileyshot22: problem i am considering stocking several of these in the beginning of 2009. Thanks :) .

I love the product! It cuts like butter and sales like hotcakes.

I have never had a single one come back for quality problems.

It may be the most consistent product I work with.

I also love that I can buy it through LJ and get the boxes delivered with no freight cost.

I’ve never had a problem with Framerica peeling on me. I did with an expensive LJ laminate once, though.

I have found, however, that you almost need to miter Framerica with a chopper. The paper get a bit raggedy when you try to cut through it with a saw. But, the wood itself is generally very soft and easy to cut.

Certainly Framerica is not top of the line moulding, but it does have its place.

It cuts great on our Pistorius. Your markup should be above your average on this, IMO, or you're going to end up in a negative expected value situation.

I have had no quality issues at all with Framerica products, some of the other MDF moulding I have had issues with. I am not as crazy about there wood finished mouldings but there blacks are great. Also you can push the GREEN button with these too.

Hmm, how far away is your shop?

My only experience with Framerica is tat I have had to replace the frame for a customer because it was peeling! The laminate was unrolling off the wood. It was a green mottled look. I thought it looked pretty nice, but I din't like that it was coming undone!

Bill, it's ok, the customer had moved here from Colorado. Te original job was done at a Micheal's in Denver. My first thought was EmiBub is this your work! Second thought was I hope not as it was a low numbered limited edition that was float mounted, and drymounted onto a piece of fome board. Regular glas and fading big time! I think the peeling was the least of this print's problems!

Very consistant quality. (Look up the information on Framericas site so you can refer to them as something other than paper covered, as you won't sell it like that) It is a low pressure laminate very much the same thing as a lot of office furniture/shelfing is covered with.

I am using it as a promo to at least get people in the door. The BB's even with their big sales can't touch this. I still have at least a 4x at this min. selection.

Maybe I should get me some of those "Gold Lamae" Big Baggy Pants to wear for this "They Can't Touch This Sale" :D

Bainbridge Paper Pebble mats. $3.00 ea.

Not to wear, but put the photo in a frame with the caption "they can't touch this price"!

How do you spell, Behh nehh nehh neh, can't touch this.

OOH it could be a bananana sale ;)

Give them another $2 off if they can sing the song! You won't make any money, but just to watch the customers break into a little shuffle when they sing the song, well almost worth it!

Give them another $2 off if they can sing the line before the one you give them. Chances are good they'll know the one following, but the one before will be hard to get.

You'll get to watch them walking down the road singing that song, and driving your fellow shop owners crazy! The other shops won't know why people are singing, Can't touchthat.... ;)

Ditto on what Jerry said (I seem to say that alot). Also, no problem cutting it on our framesquare.

I like where this thread is heading. Proper.

Can't Touch This
Mc Hammer

You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this

My, my, my music hits me so hard
Makes me say "Oh my Lord"
Thank you for blessing me
With a mind to rhyme and two hype feet
It feels good, when you know you're down
A super dope homeboy from the Oaktown
And I'm known as such
And this is a beat, uh, you can't touch

I told you homeboy (You can't touch this)
Yeah, that's how we living and you know (You can't touch this)
Look at my eyes, man (You can't touch this)
Yo, let me bust the funky lyrics (You can't touch this)

Fresh new kicks, advance
You gotta like that, now you know you wanna dance
So move, outta your seat
And get a fly girl and catch this beat
While it's rolling, hold on
Pump a little bit and let 'em know it's going on
Like that, like that
Cold on a mission so fall them back
Let 'em know, that you're too much
And this is a beat, uh, you can't touch

Yo, I told you (You can't touch this)
Why you standing there, man? (You can't touch this)
Yo, sound the bell, school is in, sucka (You can't touch this)

Give me a song, or rhythm
Make 'em sweat, that's what I'm giving 'em
Now, they know
You talking about the Hammer you talking about a show
That's hype, and tight
Singers are sweating so pass them a wipe
Or a tape, to learn
What's it gonna take in the 90's to burn
The charts? Legit
Either work hard or you might as well quit

That's word because you know...

You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this

Break it down! (Music breaks down) Stop, Hammer time!

Go with the funk, it is said
That if you can't groove to this then you probably are dead
So wave your hands in the air
Bust a few moves, fun your fingers through your hair
This is it, for a winner
Dance to this and you're gonna get thinner
Move, slide your rump
Just for a minute let's all do the bump, bump, bump

Yeah... (You can't touch this)
Look, man (You can't touch this)
You better get hype, boy, because you know (You can't touch this)
Ring the bell, school's back in (You can't touch this)

Break it down!Stop, Hammer time!
You can't touch this )
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this

Break it down! (Nice pants, Hammer) Stop, Hammer time!

Every time you see me
The Hammer's just so hype
I'm dope on the floor and I'm magic on the mic
Now why would I ever stop doing this?
With others making records that just don't hit
I've toured around the world, from London to the Bay
It's "Hammer, go Hammer, MC Hammer, yo Hammer"
And the rest can go and play

You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this
You can't touch this

To reiterate, since we have hi-jacked your thread, some of us are very pleased with Framerica Bonanza Wood for the price point.

El Framo, your little avatar is doing the dance! Looks good!

JPaul, what ever happened to MC Hammer? Or Dennis Rodman for that matter. Did Rodman get called back to his home planet (was that in MIB or 3rd Rock!?)

I have been selling these very well, with no problems cutting them on my saw. They cut and join beautifully (just use the hardwood v-nails). They are ridiculously inexpensive, so I can offer a bargain price and still have an impressive margin. LJ has a very good selection that you can order in length, so you don't even have to invest in box quantities.

One other thing, Framerica's box is small. Many are just over 100'. I think the one that JPaul is using is a 200' box that would cost $102 for the entire box plus shipping.

Universal also has a new launch of foil on wood for $.28 a foot more that is on farm raised New Zealand pine.

Have you been cutting them or chopping?
I see the comment about the v-nails, anyone try thumbnails yet?

inquiring minds.....

ok.... I see the post that chopping is OK. I must be getting tired.
Still am interested about routing for a thumbnailer, does it work?????

I would not thumbnail them. MDF is not very strong in a small cross section like you would end up with after thumb nailing.

I have sold thousands of feet of it every year for the past 7+ years and have nothing but good things to say about the Bonanza Wood product. My opinion, you're missing out if you are not using it. I use a saw

Larson rep told me the other day that the Bonanza line is warrantied for life. Interesting. Pretty sure that's what he said. Also said it's all recycled wood.

I just order about 500 feet in various shades and profiles. The gold that Pat referred to, if we are thinking of the same one, is really quite nice. The color is pretty.

Exactly where does this elusive "Bonanza Tree" grow? Anybody have a picture of one?

This is a very cinsistant product and have seen no problems in it. On a side note, I advertise "No Plastic, No Junk" and have had several customers mention the MDF frames they have been shown. Again this is a good and consistat product but why not buy "Actual Wood".

There are an awful lot of deals on solid wood and very nice gessoed wood out there. I buy tons of genuine wood product for a lot less than Bonanza Wood.

Come on man! Lorne Greene, Dan Blocker, Micheal Landon, Purnell Roberts and (un named) Hop Sing! Bonanza wood is the huge Ponderosa Pine in the opening shots of the show. Jeez I thought everyone knew that.

Actually it's the forest litter at the foot of the trees, 100% recycled wood don't you know. Also called Humus, compost, brush pile.....

It works. I wouldn't have thought it, but it does. I do it all the time.

In my un-scientific testing, it was harder to break the routed corners apart than it was for the v-nailed ones.

If you place the v-nails too close together you will actually break the MDF into chunks that will fall apart. Routing doesn't break the product.

Right you are Jerry. Our Formica laminated doors were made on a 5/8" MDF substrate and we routed a groove for this type of demountable hinge, which slides into the groove and clamps onto the substrate. Doors could be slammed and the likely hood of the MDF breaking was remote compared to a screw on type of hinge.

MDF routes with a cleaner cut than almost any wood / soft or hard.

My only beef with the bonanza wood is that they are bit too flexible. I just did a fairly large frame (27x40) with a 2 1/2-inch wide bonanza wood, and the frame tends to flex. This may come back in the form of a glass replacement, I fear.

Paul, if you are concerned about it flexing and possible glass breakage, treat it like Jim Miller suggests for Poly Mouldings. That is use 2" tape around perimeter before putting on your dust cover, to tie the frame and the flush filled backing into one unit.
