Frame Wreath Web.jpg

Made this wreath with from old Christmas cards my Mum has been collecting for 20 years. I framed up the images with scraps of fillets I can’t bear to throw away. It was a fiddly project and took a while to put it all together but I love the way it came out. Wishing one and all a very Merry Christmas!

Love it!

Merry Christmas!

That's awesome! Very creative!

Much better than my pharmacist who used prescription bottles as ornaments on their tree. They were made out to Santa and were for Lipitor.

Excellent! Display it in yer shop after the holidays and take orders for next year!

Great looking wreaths. I like the idea of putting pictures in the frames.

I had two that I made 3"x3" frames hanging on them. Mine didnt have pictures in them though. Customers loved them. I've had them for 15 yrs. Sent my daughter to the Christmas shop with $50 to have two bows made, and told her to bring back the change. She came back with two beautiful bows, and I owed her money!!! I finally tossed them last year. Too many years of storage did them in. They were pretty!

Thank you all for the high praise. I don’t think it will be for sale considering all the amount of time it took me to put it all together. Not to mention it took 20 years to collect the cards!

Since I have never ever thrown away either a Christmas card or a piece of fillet over 3" long, I would appreciate knowing exactly how you made these? Did you mount the cards onto matboard and cut the fillet around them or did you do it some other way??

Framar,
I went through all the cards and picked all the ones that had smaller images. I trimmed the cards down to just the images and drymounted, laminated them onto matboard. I then reversed bevel cut the prints and joined the fillets to the sizes I need. I used a PVA glue to mount them onto the fillet frames. I them took black core black mat and cut pieces a bit smaller than the finished sized frame. Before gluing the back on I poked two holes in the back and tied the thinnest wire with a bit of slack. Once glued on to the frames I just poked the branch through the wire and bent it over. I think I made around two dozen frames in total. Start now and it will be done next year.

Wow Carla; it looks fantastic!!!!! Love it! So much work though, I understand you're not too eager to sell them.....no return on your time...but it looks truly lovely and now I have a good idea to do with my mom's handmade cards and the tons of fillet scraps. (if I ever get to it...)
