I have a customer who brought in a hand-woven coverlet from 1825. He wants it framed to hang in his new restaurant. It is about 8 ft by 8 ft square.

I have told him he will have to go with acrylic glazing, and that at that size it will have to be specially made and shipped (read:really expensive). I also discussed mounting options, weight, etc.

I frankly cannot handle something this size. For one thing, it won't fit through my door! In fact, I am going tomorrow to see if it will fit through his door!

Does anyone here know of someone in the Dallas/Ft Worth area that can handle something this size? I would like to refer him to someone competent.

Thanks for any ideas!

Commercial Plastics, Modern Plastic should be in the DFW area. They will carry and deliver larger sizes than that.

Let your finger do the walking to fine someone. I'm sure someone does it in that type of area. The largest I've done was 10' square to the outside. Rented a garage and assembled and created it there. That was 12 years ago and I remember it cost 5 figures. The customer then hired a contractor to open a hole in the backwall of his house to install it. I heard that cost more than the frame. The art that was in the frame was 6 figures.

If you want the job you can figure it out.

Hi Leslie,

Gosh it's nice to see your name on the Grumble once in awhile!! Those measurements are about 4 times the size of the framer I had in mind (bodywise anyway) but she will most likely chime in on this thread as she works for an excellant frameshop in Ft. Worth.

The logistics of moving a piece that size can be as daunting as any other part of the construction. If you can't get it out of the door when it's finished, you have a real problem. I think most everybody has heard the story of the guy who built a boat in his basement. 40 days and nights of steady rain wouldn't float that boat out of there!!!

Hang in there Leslie, ........................... Jo, are you still pumping out water???
