Can anybody tell me of a Canadian distributor for FrameMica mouldings? Larson Juhl won't deal with me, as I am home-based. I have been searching the internet, but found nothing. Also, are there any framers doing mirrors? I'm also looking for a Canadian supplier of mirrored glass.

Thanks everyone.

Louise,

Welcome to the Grumble.

FrameMica recently changed their name to Framerica. You could go to their website here and request the name of a dealer in your area.

I can't help you with mirrors in your area. Sorry.

Welcome to the Grumble.

For mirrors you need to find your local glass/mirror processor as distinct from glass supplier, first ask them if they have their own bevelling machine if they fudge this question forget them they will be farming out the work, most big cities will have a few glass processors who supply all the glazers, furniture manufacturers, door and window manufacturers, the bathroom people, etc. with processed glass and mirror products, think about it someone is making all those mirrors you see in restaurants, hotels, shops etc.

They should be listed in the yellow pages under “glass merchants”, “glass processors” or “glass wholesalers”, the odd glazing business will have their own bevelling machine but if it is old the bevel will be wavy, I have two glazers within 20 miles of me who have their own bevelling machines, this is unusual as most glazers will get this done with one of the glass processors

Go for 4mm mirror glass although 6mm will give the better reflection but it will be very heavy unless you are using very large moulding, 25mm bevels are best on 4mm and 30mm bevels on 6mm mirror.

Thanks Dermot, you sound as if you have done a lot of mirrors! I really appreciate the extra information on weight of glass and bevels. I'm surprised that none of the frame distributors carry mirrored glass, as I assumed making mirrors was a natural extension of the framing industry. Anyhow, I'll check the Nanaimo, Vancouver and Victoria yellow pages, and see what I can find. I'll also look in the "Sources" and see what I can find for Framerica. Thanks everyone. If there is anyone out there who knows specific suppliers, it would still help. Thanks.
